Intro
Are you looking for an opportunity to develop a new and innovative product? A challenging graduation project that will have a disruptive impact on the market? Do you enjoy using your creativity to find new solutions for a product that will help enable the energy transition? If so, then look no further than this graduation position at Royal IHC.
Graduation Project description
The floating wind market is now still in an early stage with some prototype floating turbine generators being installed. According to market forecasts, the number of floaters, will increase significantly by the end of this decade, including mooring and installation. Royal IHC developed the patented subsea tension tool as an independent intervention tool for tensioning chain, but a simplified version is preferred for the wind industry.
The IHC SAS-Hytop engineering department is responsible for the delivery of the engineering design package for construction and delivery of offshore equipment. Next to delivery of the engineering design packages to the workshop, engineers also communicate with the workshop, class bureaus and customer on a daily basis.
The Challenge
Within this graduation Project, you are responsible for a concept version of the new simplified the Subsea Tension Tool. With this tool, our sales department can offer our customers a cost-effective method for tensioning mooring chains after installation, without adding additional weight to the mooring line. The design must be a solid basis for the sales department to explain it to our clients and for the engineering department to have a clear scope and demarcation to estimate further engineering. For this reason, the graduation project should minimally lead to an extensive report on the results and input for creation of a leaflet or brochure.
You will use current design, feedback from SAS-Hytop and clients, as well as regulations to create the tool specification and a design. With the design IHC will inform clients and determine a engineering scope for the next stage. To achieve this, you will be involved in a wide range of tasks and have the following responsibilities:
In short, you are expected to research, design and document a disruptive and cost effective method for chain tensioning on floating wind turbine platforms.
This method can change the market and help bring down the cost of floating wind to an acceptable level. It will contribute to the feasibility of floating wind and help to enable a brighter future for the energy transition.
Your Profile
To be able to discuss and inform the organization and colleagues in the developments and initiatives in the field of chain mooring, floating wind and the Royal IHC way of working, you must be an articulate, confident and self-driven individual. You will be able to take the initiative. To be eligible for this position, you must have:
