Junior Energy Lawyer

For our Brussels office we are looking for an energy law trainee with 0 to 2 years of experience.

AKD has a market-leading energy team, with a strong track record particularly in the field of renewable energy projects and in the regulation of the electricity and gas markets. Our practice includes:

• full lifecycle (“drawing board-to-decommissioning”) assistance to onshore and offshore renewable energy project developers and their lenders. This covers advising, negotiating and where necessary litigating in respect of permits, subsidies, construction agreements, power purchase agreements and, ultimately, decommissioning;
• energy-related litigation in the civil courts, the markets Court, the Council of State and the Constitutional Court, typically in test cases regarding recently adopted and/or controversial legislation; and,
• advising energy producers, network operators, public authorities and industrial companies on forthcoming and recent energy and climate legislation, e.g. emergency legislation in response to market shocks (such as energy price volatility in 2022).
• We offer the opportunity to work on a wide variety of challenging matters, under the direct supervision of experienced energy lawyers, and thorough on-the-job training.

Job requirements

You hold a Master’s degree in Law from a Belgian university. You are analytic, critical and capable of original thought. You are ambitious, result-driven and a team player. You have a good command of Dutch and English and a working knowledge of French. You are open to practicing in multiple areas of the law, including contract, administrative, constitutional and European law as well as sector-specific legislation. Whilst an interest in learning energy law is a requirement, prior knowledge in this area is not.
