Do you have a passion for scientific research and communication?

About Our Team

We are looking for an experienced editor to join the Trends Open editorial team and the Cell Press Physical Science portfolio of journals. In this unique joint role, you will be exposed to a wide range of innovative chemistry, materials, and energy research.

As a member of the editorial team of Trends Open, our Open Access multidisciplinary Review journal, you will engage with researchers to publish high-quality reviews and commentary across the physical, chemical, Earth, applied, and engineering sciences. You will also shape the research and analyses submitted to and published by journals across our Physical Science portfolio.

About the Role

We are especially interested in candidates with strong expertise in fields such as materials research including solar, battery, or broad condensed matter, application-driven chemistry research including materials chemistry, synthesis, and heterogenous catalysis, or machine learning applications to physical science.

You will be closely engaged in all aspects of editorial work at Cell Press. As a member of the Trends Open team, you will work directly with the Editor in Chief to develop the very best review articles that span the physical sciences. As a member of the Cross-Journal editorial team, you will also work with journals across our Physical Science portfolio to evaluate and publish rigorous field-shaping research as described below.

We are looking for candidates with strong communication skills and a wide interest in science outside of one’s own area of expertise. This is a full-time editorial position, with preference given to candidates located near our US, Amsterdam or London offices.

Responsibilities

  • Identify key authors and research topics where a review will benefit the research community.
  • Evaluate research manuscripts against journals’ requirements for reporting critical field-shaping research.
  • Manage a pipeline of high-quality Review and research articles across broad fields, managing their peer review and editorial processes.
  • Edit manuscripts to enhance scientific messaging and clarity.
  • Work alongside the Editor-in-Chief and Cell Press editorial family to grow visibility of Trends Open.
  • Represent the journal at conferences and public forums, promoting its impact and engaging with the wider scientific community.
  • Execute AI- and data-driven innovations and experiments to meet the evolving needs of the research community.

Requirements

  • PhD with a focus on research areas mentioned above.
  • Prior editorial experience is highly recommended.
  • A genuine passion for science and scientific communication.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an enthusiastic approach to time management and organization.
  • Ability to work both in a team dynamic and independently, impartially, and proactively.
  • A can-do attitude accompanied by a strategic mindset and solution-oriented approach.

We promote a healthy work/life balance across the organization. We offer an appealing working prospect for our people. With numerous wellbeing initiatives, shared parental leave, study assistance and sabbaticals, we will help you meet your immediate responsibilities and your long-term goals.
