Scientific Software Engineer – Rotterdam – ALTEN Nederland

The Position

As part of our continued growth, we are looking for a Scientific Software Engineer to join our team and contribute to ongoing client projects in Rotterdam.

As Scientific Software Engineer, your main tasks will include:

• Develop, test, and maintain scientific and technical software applications using Python and/or C++
• Implement numerical algorithms, simulations, and mathematical models into efficient and reliable code
• Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and technical teams to translate research requirements into software solutions
• Analyse and process complex datasets, ensuring accuracy and reproducibility of results
• Optimize code for performance, scalability, and high-performance computing environments
• Comfortable working in collaborative, agile teams, and hybrid setting

We are interested in engineers with experience in one or more of the following:

• Python
• C++ or C
• MATLAB or Julia

Your Profile

• Completed Master’s Degree or PhD in Software Engineering, Computer Science and a relevant degree
• Minimum of 3 years experience as a Scientific Software Engineer or in a similar role within software development
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Fluent in English. Dutch is a bonus
• Team player with a curious and eager-to-learn attitude
