ABN AMRO’s Sustainability Risk team is looking for an intern interested in learning how to conduct Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) risk assessments of companies, develop analytical skills related to environmental, climate, biodiversity, human rights and animal rights risks, and learn how the banking sector approaches sustainability and what financiers can do to make the economy more green and social.

At a glance

Are you interested in learning how to conduct Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) risk assessments of companies? Are you interested in developing analytic skills related to environmental, climate, biodiversity, human rights and animal rights related risks? Do you want to learn about how the banking sector approaches sustainability and what financiers can do to make the economy more green and social?

Then ABN AMRO’s Sustainability Risk team is looking for you as their next intern!

Your job

The banking sector is situated in a unique position to help build a more sustainable economy: every company needs finance. The Sustainability Risk team applies the bank's sustainability policies and requirements to the bank’s corporate clients, and looks for ways to connect risks to opportunities to accelerate their sustainability shift. This can be done through financing sustainable initiatives and transitions and through client dialogues.

The assessments of the Sustainability Risk team span the entire ESG spectrum: from greenhouse gas emissions and water management to human rights, labor rights and even animal rights. The team works closely together with many stakeholders both inside and outside ABN AMRO.

As an intern you will help conduct these assessments for companies across a broad array of sectors, from small enterprises to multi-billion dollar companies. You will learn to apply knowledge you’ve built throughout your studies and will discover new sustainability issues you never thought of before. You will gain experience in assessing companies and projects through the lens of international frameworks and standards.

Your working environment

The atmosphere in the team is collaborative, fast paced, diplomatic and constructively critical. We encourage you to take initiative and to actively participate in discussions.

Your profile

You are a good match for this internship if:

  • You are currently enrolled (and will remain enrolled throughout the internship duration) in a WO program at a Dutch university in a relevant field such as sustainability, environmental studies, or a related discipline. Master's candidates are preferred; however, candidates pursuing a Bachelor's degree are also welcome to apply.
  • You have strong analytical skills and can assess complex information to form clear and well-structured conclusions.
  • You write concisely and professionally, and you can communicate in a diplomatic and constructive manner when collaborating with different stakeholders. Dutch fluency is preferred, but not mandatory.
  • You enjoy working in a team environment, contributing ideas, and engaging actively in discussions.
  • You are a quick learner who can work autonomously and take initiative in your tasks.
  • You are available full-time (36 hours per week) for a period of six months and able to be in the Amsterdam office at least twice per week. The internship starting date is between June 1st and September 1st.

What we offer

  • A personal work laptop to support your development and daily tasks.
  • An internship allowance of €750 per month.
  • A hybrid working environment.
  • Coverage of travel costs for interns without a student OV-Chipkaart.
  • An informal and multicultural environment among top professionals.
  • Membership in the Young ABN AMRO Community, giving you access to social events, networking opportunities, workshops, and activities to help you integrate into the bank and connect with other young professionals and interns.
