Job description
Are you inspired by shaping the next generation of computer science approaches and make a lasting impact through technology? Do you want to work with and educate the next generation of computer scientists? The Software Technology department is looking for a collaborative and forward-thinking Assistant Professor to join our department and mission. The Software Technology department comprises teams that work in the areas of Algorithms, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Networks, Embedded Systems, Information Retrieval, Networked Systems, Programming Languages, Software Engineering, and Quantum Computer Science.
You will develop and lead an independent research line in an area of your choice that aligns with the existing research lines of the department’s 8 research groups. The specific research line that you bring to our department should ideally be complementary to the research that our faculty members are already doing. We will support you in building up your own research line with a start-up package comprising one PhD student. We envision that with the help of your team members, you will acquire additional funding to grow your research team and grow your impact in your research domain.
You will teach and inspire students in our BSc and MSc Computer Science programmes. We take great pride in our educational programmes, as it brings us together with highly motivated, international students who rank among Europe’s top technical talent. As part of your educational mission, you will teach both courses and supervise students for their end projects at the BSc and MSc level. To support our educational activities, we have a team of highly skilled lecturers that enable us to scale up education and consistently innovate our education.
You will contribute to a collaborative and impact-driven academic environment. You will work within one of the 8 current research groups that comprise the department of Software Technology. Together with our sister department Intelligent Systems, we are the Computer Science cluster in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science. In our faculty, research is driven by depth, technical excellence, and long-term impact. You will have the academic freedom to shape your research agenda, build a team, and pursue competitive funding from national and international programmes and industry partners.

Conditions of employment
This position is offered as an Academic Career Track position. During the Academic Career Track, we expect you to grow towards an Associate Professor position within a maximum of eight years, for which a position will be available. With other Academic Career Track colleagues, you will participate in the Academic Career Track Development programme, where you are offered ample opportunities to develop yourself in the areas of Education, Research, Societal Impact & Innovation, and Leadership & Organisation. You will regularly discuss your development and results with senior staff based on a personalized development plan and performance criteria agreed upon at the start of your Academic Career Track. You will start with a temporary contract that will be converted to a permanent contract no later than 12-18 months after a positive evaluation, based on continuous confidence in your development potential and fit in the organisation.
Inspiring, excellent education is our central aim. We expect you to obtain a University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) within three years if you have less than five years of teaching experience. This is provided by the TU Delft UTQ programme as part of the Academic Career Track Development programme.
TU Delft sets high standards for the English competency of the teaching staff. The TU Delft offers training to improve English competency. If you do not speak Dutch, we offer courses to learn the Dutch language within three years.
Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities. The TU Delft offers a customisable compensation package, discounts on health insurance, and a monthly work costs contribution. Flexible work schedules can be arranged and you can work partly from home.
