Play a key role in advancing experimental cosmology by leading the instrumentation of TIFUUN. From calibration to deployment, your work enables cutting-edge observations in extreme environments.

Postdoc Experimental Cosmologist

Job description

As an Experimental Cosmologist, you will take on the role of chief instrument scientist for TIFUUN. In this position, you are responsible for ensuring the instrument performs at the highest scientific standards, from initial testing to full deployment on the ASTE telescope.

You will design and execute testing and calibration procedures to guarantee reliable and precise measurements. Your work directly supports high-impact cosmological research, enabling observations that contribute to our understanding of the universe.

A key part of your role is preparing and deploying the instrument in challenging environments, including remote locations such as the Atacama Desert and the South Pole. You will coordinate closely with international collaborators, telescope operators and research teams to ensure smooth integration and operation of the instrument.

You will also contribute to the continuous improvement of TIFUUN, identifying opportunities to enhance performance and reliability. In this highly collaborative and technical environment, you will work alongside physicists, engineers and researchers, sharing knowledge and driving innovation in experimental cosmology.

This is a unique opportunity to combine hands-on instrumentation work with frontier scientific research, making a tangible impact on the field.

Job requirements

  • You hold a PhD in experimental cosmology or a closely related field.
  • You have hands-on experience with scientific instrumentation, including testing and calibration.
  • You have experience deploying instruments in remote or extreme environments, preferably at the South Pole.
  • You are able to work independently and take ownership of complex technical systems.
  • You collaborate effectively with international and multidisciplinary teams.
  • You have strong problem-solving skills and a proactive mindset.
  • You communicate clearly in English, both written and spoken.
