The national graduate development programme for local government (ngdp) is a two-year development programme for committed and passionate graduates who want to make a difference to people and communities.

Our National Management Trainees (NMTs) are employed by a participating local authority where they enjoy placements in key areas such as policy and strategy, front-line service delivery and support functions. This broad experience enables NMTs to form a detailed understanding of the many different aspects of local government and the issues relating to delivering services to local communities. NMTs also benefit from being part of a national peer group working towards their ILM Level 7 Diploma in Leadership and Management through in-person modules and e-learning.

The ngdp is a launchpad for your career in local government and beyond. Since 2002, over 900 graduates have completed the ngdp, with many now holding influential managerial and policy roles in local authorities and the wider public sector. The ngdp’s national recruitment process is open for applications from 9 November 2015 to 11 January 2016. The programme offers up to 120 graduate jobs each year on our two year scheme, including a fixed-term employment contract and an accredited learning and development programme.
