The role

As the Department Manager Logistics at Damen Naval, you will be the driving force behind the efficiency and effectiveness of our logistics operations. You'll lead a dedicated logistics team, ensuring that every process aligns perfectly with organizational needs, departmental goals, and the overarching supply chain strategy. You'll be responsible for developing and implementing operating plans, policies, and procedures to optimize our logistics function. This is your opportunity to lead continuous improvement programs, foster collaboration across departments, and ensure full compliance with all supply chain policies and procedures. You will also oversee all aspects of your team, including budget, people management, and resource allocation to support our cutting-edge naval vessel projects.

Key accountabilities

  • Developing and implementing long- and mid-term operating plans, policies, and procedures to achieve business objectives.
  • Managing the section's resource planning to ensure all project teams are equipped with the necessary capabilities.
  • Building and strengthening internal and external coalitions with other Damen entities and suppliers to achieve shared strategic goals.
  • Leading and motivating a productive, cohesive team by measuring and driving internal performance.
  • Providing comprehensive support during the proposal phase of projects.
  • Participating in cross-functional reviews and approval processes with management and project teams.
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of the department’s processes and fostering knowledge development, transfer, and retention.

Skills & experience

  • A Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field
  • 8+ years of experience in a leadership role within the logistics or supply chain domain.
  • Extensive experience in logistics, supply chain, and warehouse management, preferably within large companies in the (naval) shipping industry.
  • A strong understanding of general management principles and a solid knowledge of supply chain and sourcing principles.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage a team, including budget and resource planning.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Awareness of the need for frequent business travel, possibly intercontinental and for long durations.
  • A good command of the Dutch and English languages, both spoken and written, is essential.
  • Excellent references, as a security screening is part of the hiring process
  • Permanent EU citizenship and passport are both required. Candidates with EU (work) visa or with both an EU and non-EU nationality and/or passport are not eligible in accordance with the requirements imposed by the military nature of our projects.
