If you're looking for work experience, you should consider applying for a placement. Placements are essentially extended internships. Industrial placements might form part of your course at university.

When do placements take place?

Placements take place between July of one academic year and the September of the following year. In the UK it is common to do a placement year both as a gap year during your studies, as well as after you graduate as an intense learning experience.

How long is a placement?

A placement year typically lasts between six and twelve months depending on the company's specifications.

Why do a placement?

Placements give you valuable insight in how a company works and what different departments have to offer. Doing a placement also increases your chance of being hired when you decide to enter the graduate job market. It can also aid you decide if you want to pursue a certain career path or not.
