We’re looking for a Stability, Load Line and Tonnage – Senior Specialist to join Lloyd’s Register in Rotterdam. In this role, you will perform technical assessments and provide specialist advice to internal and external clients, working within defined parameters and agreed timelines.

You will have a particular focus on supporting work related to naval vessels and Inland Waterway vessels, delivering high-quality technical solutions aligned with Lloyd’s Register procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation, and industry standards.

What we offer you

  • The opportunity to work for an organisation with a strong sense of purpose, driven by values and a commitment to a safer world.

  • A role within a global technical organisation, with strong professional networks and development opportunities.

  • Access to a wide range of people development programmes to support professional and personal growth.

  • The chance to work on technically complex assessments across a variety of vessel types, including specialised Inland Waterway and naval-related projects.

The role

As a Senior Specialist, you will be responsible for delivering technical assessments, approvals, and advisory support within the discipline of Stability, Load Line and Tonnage.

Technical assessment and service delivery

  • Perform assessments and provide specialist advice for service delivery, research, or development work within agreed parameters, including contractual and budget constraints.

  • Produce technical deliverables in the required format, ensuring quality, consistency, and compliance with LR standards.

  • Provide “Technical Support Service” through plan approval and technical advisory support to clients and colleagues.

  • Approve plans and provide guidance specifically in the areas of Stability, Load Line and Tonnage, with a strong focus on Inland Waterway vessels.

Client and stakeholder engagement

  • Estimate and recommend the time and value of work to be undertaken for internal and external clients within agreed fee and cost structures.

  • Discuss and present deliverables to clients and internal stakeholders, and suggest alternative solutions where appropriate.

  • Communicate client feedback to support service delivery improvement and continuous enhancement.

Quality, compliance, and governance

  • Conduct all activities in line with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation, and applicable industry standards.

  • Support improvements to service delivery effectiveness by suggesting changes to processes and work scope that reduce appraisal effort where applicable.

  • Undertake administration in line with current processes and procedures.

Coaching and knowledge transfer

  • Coach and support other employees as appropriate, sharing knowledge to enable effective capability development.

  • Disseminate technical information to support consistent application and continuous learning across the team.

Continuous professional development

  • Pursue Continuous Professional Development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.

  • Keep up to date with regulations, instruments, and technical developments relevant to Stability, Load Line and Tonnage.

What you bring

  • A degree (or equivalent) from a tertiary organisation recognised by Lloyd’s Register in Naval Architecture (minimum two-year programme), or qualifications from a marine/nautical institution with relevant sea-going experience as a certificated ship’s officer.

  • Membership of an appropriate professional institution.

  • Working towards achieving Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status.

  • Proficiency in English commensurate with the work.

  • Strong knowledge and working experience with Stability, Load Line and Tonnage regulations and instruments for various ship types, with a particular focus on Inland Waterway vessels.

  • Working experience with stability calculation software such as NAPA, Seasafe, or similar.

You are someone who…

  • Enjoys solving technical problems and delivering practical, high-quality solutions.

  • Works well within defined parameters while maintaining strong judgement and attention to detail.

  • Can communicate technical outcomes clearly to both internal stakeholders and external clients.

  • Is confident presenting deliverables and discussing alternative solutions when needed.

  • Takes ownership of deadlines and delivers consistently within agreed scope and budget.

  • Supports continuous improvement by identifying ways to strengthen processes and reduce unnecessary effort.

  • Enjoys coaching others and contributing to knowledge sharing across the team.

  • Is committed to continuous learning and maintaining professional standards.
