Are you passionate about driving innovation in Movement Sciences to make a meaningful impact on people and society? Join us as Business Developer Movement Sciences!

Your function

The Business Developer will focus on identifying and developing valorisation opportunities within the Faculty of Behavioural and Movement Sciences, with a particular emphasis on Amsterdam Movement Sciences (AMS), an innovative research institute. AMS is a collaborative institute of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and Amsterdam UMC. Its mission is to optimise physical performance in both health and disease, and to translate this expertise into solutions that enhance human physical and mental wellbeing.

As a Business Developer you will pro-actively support researchers in bringing their research ideas to the market, e.g. by protecting and licensing Intellectual Property (IP), by supporting and initiating a start-up or by facilitating contract research with public or private partners. The Business Developer will be the first point of contact for academic researchers as they aim to bring their research product to market and will be the vital link between the faculty and the central organisation. The Business Developer acts as a key intermediary between researchers and external partners including the various established Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) and guides the researchers through the initial phase of bringing a research product or IP to the market.

A sample of the projects that you will support:

  • Augmented reality to alleviate the freezing of gait in Parkinson research
  • Exoskeletons to restore and support the arm and leg function
  • AI driven remote monitoring platforms for real-time and personalized home rehabilitation
  • Apps that are used to monitor the patient’s health prior to, and after surgery
  • Wearables that register the wearer’s data in real time
  • Wearable technology to monitor various body functions for use by e.g. Ministry of Defense
  • Biomarkers of aging and healthy longevity
  • Treatment and medication of neuromuscular and musculoskeletal disease

Your profile

  • You have a Master/PhD preferably in Movement Sciences, Biomedical Sciences or Molecular Biology
  • You have an eye for promising research in the field of Movement Science, Biomedical Sciences or Molecular Biology, among others, and the necessary knowledge and skills to bring this research successfully to the market
  • You have proven experience with public-private partnerships and collaborations, IP and licensing agreements
  • You are pro-active, entrepreneurial and you have a service mentality
  • You act as a natural connector between research and private and public partners like ministries
  • You get energy from facilitating and coaching start-ups
  • You enjoy operating in an interdisciplinary environment where technology meets societal needs
  • You are fluent in Dutch and English, both written and spoken

What do we offer?

  • A role with real impact at the intersection of research, innovation, and society.
  • A 12-month employment contract, with the possibility of changing it to a permanent position after 12 months, subject to good performance.
  • The job profile is based on the university ranking system (UFO) of Knowledge Valorisation Officer (3/2) and is open for at least 0,8 fte.
  • A salary between €4.728 and €7.297 gross per month (scale 11–12, based on education & experience).
  • Excellent benefits, including hybrid working options, 8% holiday allowance, and 8.3% year-end bonus.
  • Opportunities for professional development, training, and expanding your network.
