Internship: Grid impedance modeling (Electrical Engineering)

The Infra team within ASML’s Electronics Development department designs and validates the electrical infrastructure that powers ASML’s advanced lithography systems. As these systems grow in complexity, understanding how they interact with the electrical grid becomes increasingly important. This internship supports that goal by helping the team model and analyze grid impedance under real operating conditions. You will contribute to improving system stability and enabling more reliable performance. This is a hands-on role where your work directly supports future EUV system development.

Your assignment

During this internship, you will investigate how ASML’s EUV systems behave when connected to different grid conditions. You will create a detailed impedance model and validate it with real measurement data. You will also explore additional analyses to help the team better understand system behavior during transients.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Perform on-site electrical measurements to capture voltages, currents, harmonics, and other key parameters.
  • Build an impedance model of the EUV system’s grid using industry-standard simulation tools (ETAP).
  • Create simulations to compare measured data with modeled behavior.
  • Analyze system performance during transients, short-circuits, and other dynamic conditions.
  • Investigate load flow, power quality, and harmonic behavior to improve model accuracy.
  • Summarize your methodology, results, and recommendations in a clear technical report.
  • Present your findings to the Infra team in a structured and accessible format.

Your profile

To be suitable for the internship, you:

  • Are currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering or a related discipline.
  • Have a strong interest in power systems, electrical infrastructure, and grid modeling.
  • Are analytical and enjoy turning complex data into clear insights.
  • Work in a structured and collaborative way within a technical team.
  • Are proactive and comfortable working with measurement equipment and simulation tools.

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.

We're moving technology forward
In fact, we’re probably a part of the electronic device you’re using right now. Our lithography technology is fundamental to mass producing semiconductor chips. With it, the world’s top chipmakers are creating microchips that are more powerful, faster and energy efficient.
