About the role

Senior Product Data Scientist

At Catawiki, every day brings the extraordinary! Whether it’s Daniel Ricciardo’s Formula 1 Car, a Woolly Mammoth’s Skeleton, Lady Gaga's Jumpsuit or Usain Bolt’s running shoe, we encounter exceptional objects every day.

We're a one-of-a-kind marketplace for buying and selling special objects! Each week we offer over 110,000 unique items in auction, carefully curated by our passionate in-house experts.

As a growing, diverse and sustainable scale-up, we proudly live by our core values:

  • Taking ownership and driving impact
  • Being open to change and feedback
  • Being passionate about our mission and our customers.

About the role and team

With thousands of active lots every day, hundreds of thousands of daily bids, millions of users, and billions of events, the Catawiki platform generates vast amounts of data. We collect and store this data, and use it extensively to build a better company by making smarter decisions. The Data Science & Insights team plays a central role in that.

We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist - Product Insights to work with our Product teams and leverage data to identify user journey opportunities and measure the impact of our product features.

You will be part of the Data Science & Insights team helping us make sense of our data, finding actionable insights and creating self-service opportunities by combining data from multiple sources and working closely together with your colleagues in other departments.

In this role, no two days will be the same: you will find product opportunities, design and analyse A/B tests, uncover trends in user behaviour, communicate about the impact of a new initiative or enhance the reliability of our data pipelines. Whatever the task, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping Catawiki’s product solutions and influencing our stakeholders.

What You’ll Do

  • Own analytics for a broad product area – Take full ownership of a major part of the platform (e.g., buyer-facing features, seller-facing experiences, or order fulfilment). Build strong partnerships with stakeholders and proactively identify opportunities by deeply understanding Catawiki’s user behaviour.
  • Turn data into insights and recommendations – Define and refine key success measures, uncover trends, and translate data into clear recommendations that shape Product decisions and strategy. Build dashboards and reports to ensure the right information is available to guide the business.
  • Drive advanced product analytics at scale (including GenAI) – Use methods like regression analysis, causal inference, and A/B testing to understand user behaviour, uncover actionable insights, and measure feature impact. Help define how GenAI-powered features are evaluated by setting up offline benchmarks and online measurement to track quality, performance, drift, and user impact over time.

Who You Are

  • Practical data leader – Strong quantitative background with 6+ years of experience in data science or analytics (ideally in an online company). Comfortable owning complex projects and influencing stakeholders with recommendations tied to measurable product impact (e.g., conversion, retention, engagement).
  • Advanced technical skills – Highly proficient in SQL and experienced in writing code to transform data into insights (Python, R, or another language). Able to handle large datasets, optimize data pipelines, and work with tools like Looker Studio, Tableau, Power BI, and data transformation tools like dbt or Dataform.
  • Deep statistical expertise – Strong grasp of statistics and advanced techniques such as regression analysis, causal inference, time series modeling, and hypothesis testing.
  • Web and app analytics – Experience with tracking tools like Google Analytics (GA) and Google Tag Manager (GTM), and able to design, implement, and validate measurement strategies.
  • Experimentation and impact analysis – Hands-on experience designing and evaluating A/B tests and other experiments with robust methodologies that lead to actionable insights.
  • Proactive and entrepreneurial mindset – Takes ownership, solves problems autonomously, and drives initiatives forward, even outside your comfort zone.
  • Strong communicator and mentor – Works effectively with leadership, engineers, and product teams, translating complex insights into clear recommendations; enjoys mentoring other data scientists and fostering a data-driven culture.
