Role Overview

As a Data Scientist II, you will be involved in various stages of data science solutions, from ideation to implementation. You will be working independently on data consumption and preparation, effectively solving business problems through statistical data analysis and modeling. This role involves interpreting experimental data to guide business decisions, uncovering new opportunities, and engaging with stakeholders.

Value Growth Data enables sustainable growth for both the partners and the platform by providing effective price intelligence, building data products to help product and commercial teams achieve price competitiveness, and optimizing the Genius and Preferred partner programs.

Key Job Responsibilities and Duties

  • Own the design and delivery of end-to-end data science solutions based on business requirements, bringing them from initial idea generation to implementation independently.
  • Work autonomously on consuming data, preparing it for data science use, translating business problems into data stories, and solving them by applying suitable statistical analysis and modeling methods; leverage stakeholder input to determine the right technical solutions to deliver customer value.
  • Design and interpret quantitative experiments to objectively guide key business decision-making.
  • Independently identify and manage stakeholders in operational, project-based, and managerial roles; communicate clearly, address stakeholder needs, convey complex analysis results, flag roadblocks, prioritize workload, and manage expectations; begin to guide junior colleagues in stakeholder engagement.
  • Adopt existing internal and external data science approaches, propose and spot opportunities to apply new approaches, and expand technical competencies for self and peers when more efficient methods are identified.
  • Ensure quality of work by validating it through peer review.

Role Qualifications and Requirements

  • Master degree or PhD or equivalent experience in a quantitative field (Statistics, Mathematics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Physics, Engineering, Bioinformatics, or similar); minimum 3 years of professional experience as a data scientist.
  • Experience solving real problems using data mining techniques and with statistical rigor.
  • Strong technical skills in data analysis, statistics, machine learning, and programming; strong working knowledge of Spark, SQL, Python and/or R.
  • Strong skills in translating business problems into data problems.
  • Strong data visualization skills.
  • Strong knowledge of statistical methods (e.g., testing, GLM, inference), statistical/machine learning (e.g., dimension reduction, clustering, regularisation, bagged/boosted methods), relational Markov models, time series, etc.
  • Strong knowledge of data management (engineering, data pipelines, workflows).
  • Strong knowledge of the possibilities and limitations of different types of data analysis and/or data science modelling.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and fluent in English.
