The Role: Machine Learning Scientist

At Adyen, we are the financial technology platform of choice for the world's leading companies. Our Screening team is at the heart of this platform, processing billions of transactions while providing a framework for our customers and Adyen to process transactions safely. As Adyen and our merchants scale globally, the complexity of our domain is continuously growing.

Our team operates at the critical juncture between regulatory mandate and operational scale within Adyen. We are responsible for mastering the complexities of diverse, global regulatory frameworks, translating complex legal requirements into robust, reliable software and processes. By owning this challenging domain, we assure millions of customers that their transactions are handled through a dependable and compliant framework, allowing them to rely confidently on our platform for their financial needs worldwide.

What You'll Do:

• Build – Research, design, implement, train, deploy and monitor machine learning algorithms, primarily real-time. Our team maintains and operates a set of machine learning algorithms that comprise a critical part of our compliance solution.
• Discover – Develop orchestrated pipelines for analytical purposes and machine learning training, with an emphasis on data ingestion and analytics.
• Innovate – Our team is a pioneer in the Adyen engineering organization, as we are one of the first teams deploying GenAI-powered applications to support other functions of Adyen. This is a new development paradigm that comes with a whole set of new challenges.
• Set the Team Direction – In our team, engineers actively shape the product roadmap and closely collaborate with the product team to ensure our solutions are compliant, complete and scalable.

Who You Are:

• You have 4+ years of experience as a machine learning engineer or data scientist.
• You have experience with the full machine learning model lifecycle in production flows.
• You have strong analytical skills and are able to draw conclusions from complex, large-scale datasets.
• You are a technical expert proficient in Python, SQL, and big data frameworks (PySpark, Airflow, Hadoop, Kafka).
• Good understanding of software engineering concepts like Git, CICD, Docker and Kubernetes is a big plus.
• You are proactively taking the lead in projects, from ideation to deployment. You have experience working with a wide range of stakeholders and can clearly communicate complex outcomes to a wide range of audiences.
• You can confidently work in a product team with demanding stakeholders, are able to communicate effectively and have the ability to drive the team’s roadmap, alongside the product and engineering leadership of the team.
• Experience designing and deploying LLM applications is a plus.

This role is based out of our Amsterdam office. We are an office-first company and value in-person collaboration; we do not offer remote-only roles.
