Internship | Developing new materials for supercapacitors

About this internship

During this internship, you will contribute to developing new materials for supercapacitors at TNO. With the rapid shift in the energy mix and increasing fluctuations in renewable electricity supply, new energy storage solutions are becoming more important than ever. One of the storage solutions we work on at TNO is the development of a new type of supercapacitor that combines the benefits of traditional capacitors with batteries.

What will be your role?

During this project of 6 to 9 months you will work on the material development of a new type of capacitor. This means that you will investigate new materials to improve the characteristics of the capacitor, such as the energy density, maximal power output and intrinsic resistance. Additionally, you will work on the integration of the material into a small scale prototype, to realize the material development in a device that can be tested in real-world conditions.

What we expect from you

This project requires an inventive mindset and skills across multiple fields of science. Because the project requires expertise from different scientific backgrounds, you will be working in a team environment. It is therefore essential that you bring strong communicative skills, are able to think on your feet and can work comfortably both independently and in a team.
