Second Mate

The Nautical Department, under the responsibility of the Master, plays a crucial role in the safe and efficient navigation and operation of the vessel. In accordance with International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations, this department ensures compliance with standards for navigation, safety, and crew competency. The Bridge team, supervised by the Chief Mate, works alongside the Safety and Catering teams to maintain a secure and efficient onboard environment.

As Second Mate, you are essential to the safe navigation and operational control of our offshore vessels. You’ll work on marine operations worldwide, reporting to the Chief Mate and First Mate, and collaborating with a skilled bridge team and other departments.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Operating the Dynamic Positioning (DP) system in accordance with regulations, company procedures, and project requirements.
  • Executing DP trials and task plans as directed by the First Mate or Chief Mate.
  • Preparing voyage plans, monitoring weather forecasts and navigational warnings, and updating nautical charts and publications according to the latest Notices to Mariners.

  • Ensuring all personal documentation (passport, seaman’s book, medical certificate, COC/COP, and STCW training certificates) is up to date and valid.
  • Controlling the ballast system as directed, being aware of vessel stability, and coordinating ship-to-ship logistics in liaison with the Barge Foreman and senior officers.
  • Monitoring safety, health, and environmental activities, assisting where necessary, and recording all events and incidents in the vessel’s log.
  • Keeping record of the vessel’s Daily Progress Report (DPR) for the nautical department and, in absence of a Field Engineer, administrating and sharing the DPR with relevant parties.
  • Carrying out general marine operations, vessel maintenance, and inspections, including maintenance of firefighting and life-saving appliances.
  • Assisting the Ship’s Security Officer and ensuring ISPS requirements are adhered to at all times.
  • Organizing and conducting emergency drills and exercises, and being part of the emergency teams as per the vessel’s Station Bill.
  • Acting as Helicopter Landing Officer or Radio Operator on request
