As a Medior/Senior Full-stack Java Developer at the System Operations (SO) department, we are focused on keeping the current electricity grid in the Alliander area up and running, while getting the most out of the available capacity for our customers. We do this by implementing ‘smart solutions’ that enable us to connect more customers or to provide more capacity for existing customers. This is a (Java/Kotlin) position for 32-40 hours. You will make the net more innovative at Alliander.

Please note that for this role we are searching for someone who is already living in the Netherlands and is proficient in the use of the English language at B1 level. No use of the Dutch language is required but it is preferred.

The energy transition needs you as a senior full stack developer

With a speeding energy transition and the electricity grid reaching its capacity, the need for smart solutions is rapidly increasing. Congestions are preventing new companies as well as new sustainable electricity sources from being connected to the grid. You will be working at our Alliander business unit, where you will share responsibility for managing and maintaining energy networks, like the electricity and gas grids. This is how we deliver energy to households, businesses, and other clients. Finding the right energy balance is only possible with the right motivation. We offer an inspiring working environment that will energise you in your day-to-day work. The System Operations department is made up of smart and committed professionals. You will share your expertise within the System Operations department, an Agile working department with a highly entrepreneurial mindset. The team consists of colleagues from different parts of the world, and English is therefore the official working language. This department works on the energy supply of the future and is constantly looking for new innovations that contribute to our services. Within our 20 multidisciplinary teams, we have very ambitious professionals.

At team ‘Customer Integration Workflow’ (CIW), we are at the start of the SO chain, where we check and prepare the customer product before passing it on to the other parts of SO. Our responsibility is to make sure we can ‘run’ the customer product by checking if the customer contracts are available and valid, whether we have the means to monitor a customer in the grid, and to configure other components accordingly. Our users are our internal Operations team, as well as the customers with a congestion management contract.

We are creating the energy grid of the future, for everyone, with everyone. And as a full stack developer, you can play your part in this. Your role will involve:

  • Developing backend services in Java 21 and Kotlin (Spring), exposing REST APIs.
  • Working with PostgreSQL and AWS DocumentDB for data storage.
  • Building Angular frontends using OpenAPI clients and ngRx for state management.
  • Using GitHub and Tekton for CI/CD; following GitOps practices.
  • Deploying Docker containers to Kubernetes via ArgoCD.
  • Monitoring systems with Elastic and Kibana.
  • Coding in IntelliJ, running locally with Docker Desktop.
  • Maintaining code quality with Sonar and managing dependencies with Dependabot.

You energise our network

You are an all-round software developer committed to delivering value with the team. You communicate openly, and you're not afraid to ask for or offer help and advice. You don’t need to be highly senior, but you are self-reliant and take initiative when tackling challenges. You bring something unique to the team, actively collaborating and contributing to solving problems. The developer role goes beyond just building new features—it's also about monitoring, maintaining our components, and ensuring our CI/CD pipeline runs smoothly. Our services include back-end, front-end, acceptance tests, contract tests, and more, so experience in working within a DevOps team is important. You're comfortable working across all these areas. We value creativity and out-of-the-box thinking. Your fresh ideas will help us innovate and find better solutions to complex problems.

As a full stack developer, you work closely with the other developers in the CIW team to deliver new functionality and keep our current applications up and running. You are not alone: the developers of the CIW team work closely together, by doing (pre)refinements, bi-weekly technical meetings, story kick-offs, pair programming sessions, and peer-reviews. As a Scrum team, we also have a Product Owner and a Scrum Master. We also have a lot of fun with each other, having drinks every month to celebrate successes. We mostly work from home, except for Thursdays when the entire team comes to the office in Arnhem. Once a month, we also opt to work from the Amsterdam Basisweg office. Working four days a week is always an option; the team would like the day off to be Mondays or Wednesdays (preferred) to fit the team's cadence.

We make time for personal development. With your talent and strengths, you can do that at our company. Will you contribute with your logical approach? We are looking in particular for a candidate with:

  • At least 4 years of experience in Java or Kotlin combined with Spring.
  • At least 2 years of experience in JavaScript/Typescript, HTML, CSS, and Angular.
  • Experience with DevOps (Git, Docker, Gradle, CI/CD, and Sonar) and in running and maintaining applications in a live environment.

Attractive salary and benefits package

  • A gross monthly salary of €5.310 to €7.585 (scale 10) based on a 40-hour working week.
  • Annually, an Individual Choice Budget (IKB) of 18% (full time) or 12.8% (part time) of your gross annual salary. This includes 5.2% ADV (shorter working hours) and 8% holiday allowance. If you do not work full time, you are not entitled to ADV. You can have this budget paid out as extra salary or use it to purchase extra days off, for example. You choose the option that is right for you.
  • 24.5 days’ holiday per year, which can be topped up generously from your IKB.
  • An end-of-year bonus of 6% of your annual salary in December.
  • A sustainable employability (SE) budget of €500 per year (from 2026 even €700). Choose a payment for a sport or hobby, to make your home more sustainable, or to reduce your student loan debt with DUO, for example. You decide how your budget is spent.
