About this position

As a Network Engineer, your challenge is to manage complex networks that enable over 4,500 TNO employees at 20 locations in the Netherlands to carry out their daily work and research. You have an eye for detail, security, and can perform coordinating tasks.

What will be your role?

As a Network Engineer, you are responsible for ensuring the availability and maintenance of the network infrastructure. This includes, among other things, the following tasks and responsibilities:

  • Ensuring adequate performance and system security.
  • Conducting performance measurements and trend analyses, and making system adjustments.
  • Managing and administering changes.
  • Advising on the urgency, impact, and priority of changes to be implemented.
  • Keeping up with the latest techniques and trends in the field.
  • Developing ideas to further improve the department’s service quality.
  • Maintaining operational contacts with software and hardware suppliers.

Because TNO conducts a lot of technological research for Defence, the secure availability of our networks is crucial, both for TNO and for society.

The Team

As a Network Engineer, you are part of the Infrastructure team. This team is responsible for the data centers, storage environment, networks, (Linux and Windows) servers, and the basic setup of clients. The team is also responsible for IAAS and PAAS cloud services and integration with on-premise services. The team primarily works from the location The Hague Nieuw Babylon and secondarily from locations in Central and Southern Netherlands. They work in a hybrid manner.

What we expect from you

To perform well in this role, it is important that you recognize yourself in the following profile:

  • At least higher professional education (HBO) working and thinking level.
  • Preferably demonstrable experience as a LAN/WAN Network Engineer in a relevant work environment.
  • Demonstrable experience with Cisco, Palo Alto, F5, Infoblox.
  • Able to optimize and automate management tasks.
  • A flexible, customer- and service-oriented attitude.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good command of Dutch and English.
  • In possession of a category B driving license.
