As a Social Worker for the Public Entity Sint Eustatius, you support individuals, families, and groups in the community who are facing personal, social, emotional, or financial challenges in their daily lives. You manage cases, develop tailored support plans, guide and coach social support staff (life coaches), and play a critical role in crisis intervention, particularly in response to reports that come in through the soon-to-be-established Domestic Violence and Child Abuse Advice & Reporting Center. You work closely with other professionals to provide appropriate assistance and guidance, aimed at promoting the well-being and self-reliance of clients. You report to the Unit Manager and are responsible for delivering high-quality, effective care that meets the needs of the community.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Provide information, advice, and guidance to individuals who face social challenges.
  • Conduct intake and needs assessments and develop comprehensive support plans.
  • Offer individual and group guidance to clients.
  • Coach and supervise social support staff, and coordinate referrals where necessary.
  • Handle crisis calls and conduct initial assessments for domestic violence or child abuse cases.
  • Implement appropriate interventions in emergency situations.
  • Mediate with government agencies and service providers to access support and resources.
  • Maintain contact with relevant agencies and partners.
  • Collaborate closely with the team, discuss approaches, and contribute to the development of social policies.
  • Identify bottlenecks and contribute to policy development.
  • Report on the progress and results of the guidance provided.
  • Represent the organization in stakeholder meetings, working groups, and consultation platforms.
  • Take the lead in implementing preventive debt-relief programs and budgeting courses.

Job requirements

  • A completed bachelor's degree in social work (or equivalent).
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience as a social worker.
  • Experience working with diverse target groups.

Required Skills and competencies

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in both Dutch and English.
  • Empathetic attitude and good communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, flexibly, and under stress.
  • Strong affinity with, and understanding of, the social and youth-related challenges within the St. Eustatius community, enabling effective alignment with local needs.
  • Willingness to work in a multicultural environment.

  • Salary: Scale 9, gross monthly between $3,576.23 - $4,797.38 (36-hour workweek).
  • Allowances: Holiday allowance of 8.33% and an end-of-year bonus of 8.33% of the annual salary.
  • 168 holiday hours per year pro rata based on a 36-hour working week.
  • Benefits: Inclusion in the pension fund.
  • A relocation scheme for candidates who respond from outside the island.
