The Gameplay Animation Team at Guerrilla is dedicated to delivering world-class animation that enhances gameplay while enriching the game world with believable creatures and engaging interactions. The Creature Animation sub-team focuses on breathing life into our mechanical and organic adversaries, ensuring every motion, gesture, and behavior feels both grounded and dynamic — whether realistic or stylized. We collaborate closely with Game Design, AI, Art, and Animation Tech to push the boundaries of creature animation in open-world gameplay.

What you will do

  • Create compelling, hand-keyed gameplay animations for a wide range of creatures — mechanical and organic — balancing realistic fundamentals with stylized personality where appropriate.
  • Animate expressive behavior, unique character traits, and movement logic for various enemy and companion types.
  • Balance realism and exaggeration to bring personality to both grounded and stylized designs.
  • Work closely with Animation Direction, AI, Design, Art, and Technical Animation teams to ensure your animations integrate seamlessly into the game.
  • Contribute to motion style development, animation libraries, and animation state machines for creature gameplay systems.
  • Take ownership of your work from first sketch to final in-game implementation.
  • Provide feedback and guidance to peers and juniors where appropriate.

Who you are

  • Have at least 4+ years of industry experience creating gameplay animation, especially for creatures or non-humanoid characters.
  • Excel at creating hand-keyed, expressive creature animation that showcases both grounded movement and stylized flair.
  • Are proficient in Maya and understand animation systems in real-time engines.
  • Have strong understanding of animal locomotion and body mechanics, with an ability to stylize when needed.
  • Possess solid knowledge of traditional animation principles.
  • Are confident working in cross-disciplinary teams with designers, programmers, and fellow animators.
  • Are self-motivated, collaborative, and open to direction and feedback.
  • Bring creativity, humor, and originality to your work.

Plusses

  • Experience with animation for robotic or mechanical creatures.
  • Familiarity with animation blueprints or node-based animation systems.
  • Knowledge of behavior trees or AI systems related to creature gameplay.
