Join Philips as an AI Tool Development Intern and play a critical role in optimizing engineering workflows that advance our health technology solutions. Over 6–12 months, you will collaborate at the cutting edge of artificial intelligence and systems engineering, developing tools that accelerate development cycles and drive technical excellence across Philips. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience, collaborate with diverse teams, and contribute to innovative solutions at a global organization.

Your role:

  • Analyze Systems Engineering Processes: Collaborate with systems engineers to identify manual, time-consuming technical processes (e.g., Requirements Analysis and Management, Verification and Validation (V&V), Risk Management, Knowledge Management, etc.) that can be improved with AI solutions.
  • Develop AI Tool Prototypes: Design and develop software prototypes and AI models (e.g., using Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Large Language Models (LLMs)) to automate or assist with systems engineering tasks.
  • Implement Tools: Write clean, efficient, and testable code (primarily in Python) to integrate AI components into existing systems engineering tools and platforms, ensuring compliance with security and governance standards.
  • Data Analysis & Model Optimization: Participate in the data collection, cleaning, and pre-processing stages, and assist in fine-tuning AI models for specific domain-related tasks.
  • Testing & Validation: Assist in testing and evaluating developed AI tools to ensure they meet performance metrics and functional requirements.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain detailed documentation of AI model development, system architecture, and operational procedures, and prepare reports summarizing research outcomes.
  • Innovation: Continuously explore emerging AI technologies and research, and recommend enhancements to standard processes.

You're the right fit if:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical field.
  • Intermediate programming experience in Python is essential, with familiarity with AI/ML frameworks.
  • Understanding of AI/ML concepts, including familiarity with retrieval-augmented generation, data processing, data governance, model building, and performance metrics.
  • Familiarity with the software development lifecycle and agile methodologies.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, a proactive attitude, and excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
  • You’re a self-starter who takes initiative, manages your time effectively, and can work independently while knowing when to seek guidance.

How we work together

We believe that we are better together than apart. For our office-based teams, this means working in-person at least 3 days per week. Onsite roles require full-time presence in the company’s facilities. Field roles are most effectively done outside of the company’s main facilities, generally at the customers’ or suppliers’ locations.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Monthly full-time allowance between €500 - €700 gross, depending on educational level and if you would need to relocate to The Netherlands. If you perform a part-time internship, you will receive the allowance pro-rata.
  • Housing compensation, in case of relocating to the vicinity of the office: €300 net if location is in the vicinity of Amsterdam, €255 net for all other Philips locations. You need to provide a rental contract of the landlord, and your normal home-work travel distance needs to be more than 50 km or travel time (one way trip) needs to be more than 1.5 hours.
  • Travel compensation: If you are not eligible for a free public transport card, you will receive up to €192 net.
  • Paid holidays per internship term.
