Do you want to guide young creators in discovering their creative power and technical skills in audio-visual production? Become a tutor in Audio-Visual Design and inspire students to turn ideas into impactful images and stories.

What are you going to do?

As a tutor in the major of Audio-Visual Design, you will contribute to an active, interdisciplinary learning environment. You will guide students through the creative and technical aspects of audio-visual production, support their development as makers, and help foster a critical and reflective practice.

  • Teach classes and workshops on audio-visual practice and production processes;
  • Coach students in (small) groups, providing artistic, conceptual, and sometimes technical guidance;
  • Help students navigate full production workflows (from concept to execution);
  • Contribute to curriculum development and collaborate with the Audio-Visual Design teaching team;
  • Participate in assessments, evaluations, and team meetings;
  • Support an inclusive, critical and student-centred learning environment.

About the Major Audio Visual Design

The Audio-Visual Design major at WdKA is a broad, dynamic and research-driven program in which students work across a wide spectrum of audiovisual media. Our students create films, videos, podcasts, installations, interactives and performances, exploring genres from documentary to essay, fiction and everything in between. What connects their work is the aim to tell involved, substantive stories through image and sound.

Across four years, students develop from emerging makers into reflective, critical and enterprising audiovisual artists who can navigate and shape the contemporary creative field.

Willem de Kooning Academy

The Willem de Kooning Academy, Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences (WdKA/RUAS), offers a variety of bachelor and master’s programs in the field of visual culture, art, design, education in arts, and leisure management. The curriculum of the Willem de Kooning Academy is founded on an interdisciplinary ethos. The Majors are the entry point of study for all Bachelor students; in the second half of the Bachelor programs, students collaborate with their peers in interdisciplinary projects; and the highly unique Stations (advanced workshops focused on Research through Making) complete the three pillars of the institute.

Are you the one we’re looking for?

You are an audio-visual maker or producer with:

  • A BKE;
  • Ideally an MA in a relevant field;
  • Broad experience in audio-visual production;
  • Experience with different methods, workflows, and creative processes;
  • Strong communication and coaching skills; able to engage students at different levels;
  • Experience in teaching or mentoring (preferably in a higher-education or art-academy context);
  • An openness to interdisciplinary collaboration and to working within a diverse community of learners;
  • Availability for regular teaching days and participation in department activities;
  • You can create a stimulating and safe learning environment and inspire enthusiasm among students;
  • You have strong communication and social skills. You can communicate, share, and transfer knowledge in both Dutch and English.
