We are currently looking for a DevOps Engineer GDN to join the team in Utrecht.

You will help maintain and enhance the infrastructure that supports nationwide subsurface information—data used to answer key societal questions, such as groundwater levels, soil stability, and the suitability of locations for renewable energy storage. As a DevOps Engineer, you ensure that the systems and applications supporting this work remain stable, secure, and future-proof.

Working from home and on-site in Utrecht, you focus on keeping the internal infrastructure and supporting applications reliable and continuously improving. You operate at the intersection of development teams and the platform team, providing the foundation on which digital products and services are delivered. You translate requests into actionable plans and implement them independently, with strong attention to security, availability, standardization, and life cycle management.

You’ll join a multidisciplinary platform team of about ten colleagues—specialists in areas such as databases, security, and architecture—where knowledge sharing and teamwork are central.

Main responsibilities

  • Maintain, monitor, and improve the internal infrastructure and supporting applications.
  • Serve as the link between development teams and the platform team, ensuring a strong and secure foundational environment.
  • Translate technical requests into concrete proposals and implement them independently.
  • Develop, standardize, and continuously refine CI/CD pipelines used for deploying products and services.
  • Support development teams in using these processes and ensure clear, up-to-date documentation.
  • Analyze and resolve incidents and service requests based on urgency, documenting solutions clearly.
  • Perform system and application administration tasks, including life cycle management, to safeguard performance and availability.
  • Participate in projects such as setting up machine-learning infrastructure in Azure or on-premises environments.
  • Assist DevOps and Scrum teams when they encounter infrastructure-related obstacles.
  • Collaborate closely with the platform team to manage maintenance, monitoring, security, and long-term improvements to the environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a higher professional education level (HBO) or equivalent working/thinking level.
  • Extensive experience with OpenShift, ArgoCD, and GitHub Actions.
  • Strong knowledge of (Red Hat) Linux, scripting, Ansible, Keycloak, and Azure.
  • Experience working with tools such as Harbor, Grafana, Prometheus, and the HashiCorp stack.
  • Familiarity with DevOps methodologies and frameworks (Kanban, Scrum, CI/CD, GitOps).
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to stay organized and prioritize effectively.
  • A problem-solving mindset and eagerness to continuously develop your skills.
  • Team-oriented attitude with a sense of shared responsibility for collective outcomes.
  • Proficiency in English, both spoken and written; Dutch is preferred. If you do not speak Dutch yet, language training can be provided.

At S&T we contribute to a safer life on earth by translating space data into valuable and actionable insights. We oversee data from instruments to application, and apply our expertise within our software frameworks, information products and consultancy.

Our society relies on space and scientific instruments for climate change monitoring, navigation, defence and national security, and other crucial services we all use in our daily lives. These instruments produce an enormous quantity of complex data, and our goal is to unlock its value.

We have more than 20 years of experience working on instrument calibration, the creation of data quality monitoring tools, the development of real-time data processing frameworks, and the development of application-specific algorithms. With this, we help organisations, governments and industries to strengthen their information position and thereby improve their decision making. We focus on the following domains: Space & Science, Defence & Security, Environment & Sustainability, and High-Tech Consulting.
