Join Nedap Retail as a Hardware Engineer

At Nedap Retail, we’re shaping the future of shopping. Every day, our technology helps retailers around the world work smarter, faster and with more confidence. As our international footprint continues to grow, we’re looking for a Hardware Engineer who wants to turn complex challenges into elegant, reliable solutions. In this role, you’ll join a multidisciplinary team that designs and builds the devices powering tomorrow’s retail experiences—combining RFID innovation, smart engineering and a healthy dose of curiosity.

Help develop the store of the future!

Within our R&D department we work with state-of-art RFID technology, advanced processing platforms and signal processing. By developing our own hardware, we are able to design our products in such a way that they perfectly solve the current problems of our customers, but are also flexible enough to add relevant functionalities for the years to come. For example, the core of our platform consists of a System-on-Chip with both an FPGA and a CPU. For the radio we use a third-party reader IC and use this to make our own implementation to arrive at our solution.

During the past years we have developed a new processing platform and currently we are in the process of creating a new product line with this platform at the core. In the role of (RFID) Hardware Engineer you are actively involved in the full product development cycle, from the first thoughts to full scale production. You play a key role in making the right component choices and in creating the schematic and layout. Because of worldwide application of our products, certification and the associated EMC requirements play an important role in the design work.

Your responsibilities

  • Create schematics and PCB layouts for new hardware designs.
  • Develop new hardware solutions using state-of-the-art RFID technology, advanced processing platforms and signal processing.
  • Collaborate within a multidisciplinary R&D team to translate customer needs into scalable, future-proof products.

Your team

You as Hardware Engineer will be working in the Devices team of our R&D department. This is a multidisciplinary team, in which sub-teams exist of firmware, hardware and product engineers. There is always a close collaboration with firmware and product engineering such that we have a smoothly working Devices team that delivers state-of-the-art products. Assertiveness, resourcefulness and a positive critical attitude are appreciated.

Our offer

As a Hardware Engineer at Nedap, you will make a valuable contribution to our goal: making people happier and more successful in their professional lives. In addition to your salary, you are entitled to a thirteenth month, a good pension scheme, and profit sharing with the opportunity to become a shareholder of Nedap. At Nedap, everything revolves around trust and autonomy. That’s why, along with your colleagues, you decide on your own working hours and vacation days to maintain a healthy work-life balance. We also highly value personal and professional growth. You will receive a comprehensive introduction, and we encourage you to continuously develop yourself.

Required experience and skills

You as Hardware Engineer ensure product validity by maintaining clear oversight, even when dealing with complex product designs. Your strong analytical skills help you make well-founded decisions, and you are not someone who shies away from stepping forward when things need to change. You confidently act as a point of contact, collaborate smoothly with colleagues both within and beyond your own team (such as the firmware team) and communicate just as effectively with operational teams on component or production choices. This means you can easily adapt your communication style when working with people who may be less technically oriented, ensuring alignment and shared understanding across the entire development process.

Furthermore, you recognize yourself in the following:

  • Work experience: You have at least 5 years of work experience in hardware engineering and/or Electrical Engineering and are at senior level or have the ambition to grow to senior level.
  • Knowledge & skills: You know how to make electronic schematics, design print layouts and you have experience in designing logical circuits and/or (U)HF electronics.
  • Preferred: It’s a big plus if you have an affinity/knowledge/experience with firmware (We use real-time operating systems, embedded Linux, C++, Rust and Python).

Good to know: You are available for 32-38 hours. Hybrid (remote) working is common within Nedap and together with your team you will arrange your own working hours for a good work-life balance. You are preferably present at our campus in Groenlo at least three times a week.
