Are you an experienced microscopy specialist ready to expand your expertise in electron and fluorescence microscopy? The Cell Microscopy Core (CMC) at UMC Utrecht invites you to join our dynamic imaging facility!

Dit ga je doen

You will support (live-cell) fluorescence microscopy workflows, while developing expertise in electron microscopy (EM) techniques. You will operate and train users on high-end fluorescence and electron microscopy platforms, training and assisting users in these methods, and driving innovations in correlative light and electron microscopy (CLEM).

You will collaborate closely with researchers and core staff to implement and innovate multi-scale imaging workflows to answer complex biological questions.

Although prior electron microscopy expertise is a plus, it is not required—we welcome candidates eager to develop their EM skills via intensive training.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, operate, and maintain fluorescence and electron microscopy instruments, ensuring high-quality image acquisition and sample handling.
  • Perform and assist electron microscopy workflows, including sample preparation, sectioning and imaging; training in EM will be provided as needed.
  • Support and train researchers on fluorescence, live-cell imaging, and electron microscopy techniques.
  • Support users by advising on imaging protocols and experimental planning, including correlative light and electron microscopy (CLEM).
  • Contribute to the development and optimization of correlative light and electron microscopy (CLEM) applications.
  • Contribute to documentation, and periodic reporting.

We Offer

  • A stimulating environment with access to state-of-the-art microscopy platforms, including fluorescence, live-cell, and electron microscopy systems.
  • Professional growth opportunities
  • A vibrant, supportive team dedicated to advancing biomedical research.
  • A collaborative, interdisciplinary environment within a leading academic medical center.
  • Competitive salary and benefits in line with UMC Utrecht policies and CAO for Dutch University Medical Centers (UMCs).

Hier ga je werken

The Cell Microscopy Core at UMC Utrecht is an expertise center for microscopy at the subcellular, cellular and tissue level. CMC provides advanced imaging services combining fluorescence, live-cell, and electron microscopy techniques. CMC is internationally renowned for immuno-electron microscopy (immunogold labeling of Tokuyasu cryosections) and correlative light-electron microscopy (CLEM) methods. These methods uniquely allow the study of molecules. Current innovations focus on volume-EM and multi-modal technologies.

CMC is ratified as the CLEM node within the national Roadmap projects Netherlands Electron Microscopy Infrastructure (NEMI) and NL-BioImaging, as well as the European ESFRI project EuroBioImaging.

Our mission is to enable researchers with innovative microscopy approaches that reveal cellular processes at the nanoscale, within the ultrastructural context of the cell.

Dit neem je mee

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in biology, biomedical sciences, biophysics, or related disciplines.
  • Solid experience with fluorescence microscopy and live-cell imaging.
  • Interest and willingness to gain expertise in electron microscopy; prior EM experience is a plus but not mandatory.
  • Strong organizational, technical, and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, thrives in dynamic environments and adapting quickly to shifting priorities.
  • Effective communication skills and a collaborative attitude.
  • Proficiency in English; Dutch language skills are an advantage.

Are you passionate about microscopy and eager to grow your skills in electron microscopy while contributing to cutting-edge CLEM innovations?

Join us and help advance biomedical research and microscopy technology, one image at a time!

We look forward to receiving your application, apply today and become part of our innovative team!
