Be part of progress: Contribute to Overlay Performance Tooling at ASML

Introduction

Overlay performance is a key aspect of ASML’s lithography systems, ensuring that different layers printed on a wafer are properly aligned. Within the System Performance Overlay group, we analyze measurement data to assess alignment accuracy and support performance improvements across our systems. To support this mission, we develop internal tools that process large volumes of measurement data and extract meaningful performance metrics. These tools are essential for engineers to evaluate system behavior, identify trends across machine populations, and drive improvements.

Your Assignment

This internship offers the opportunity to contribute to the development of new tooling for overlay analysis and improvement of existing tooling to calculate and visualize key performance metrics across machine populations. During this internship, you will:

  • Familiarize yourself with overlay data and performance metrics;
  • Improve the quality and maintainability of existing overlay analysis tooling;
  • Refactor and modularize legacy code to enhance readability and reusability;
  • Design and develop effective dashboards that turn complex data into actionable insights;
  • Collaborate with engineers to identify key metrics and ensure dashboard usability.

Your Profile

To be a match for this internship, you:

  • Are a bachelor's or master's student in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Informatics, Mathematics, or a related field;
  • Have efficient coding skills in MATLAB;
  • Preferably have some experience with code refactoring, test frameworks, or Object Oriented Programming;
  • Are familiar with data visualization tools or dashboard development (e.g., in Power BI, Python Dash, or similar);
  • Are analytical, proactive, and eager to learn about semiconductor performance metrics;
  • Have good communication skills in English (verbal and written).

Internship Details

  • This is a bachelor's or master's internship for 6 months, working 5 days a week (minimum 3 days onsite).
  • This internship is not suitable for a thesis.
  • The start date is around March 2026.

Other Requirements

  • You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship;
  • You are located in the Netherlands to perform your internship. In case you are currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter includes the willingness to relocate;
  • If you are a non-EU citizen, studying in the Netherlands, your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
