Are you passionate about creating value for both customers and colleagues through data within the NN Life & Pensions department? Are you skilled at building data flow processes or pipelines, open to change and new technologies, and capable of effectively guiding your direct colleagues? Do you enjoy seeing immediate results from your actions? Then you might be the Data Engineer we’re looking for!

Are you interested in playing a key role in the technical implementation of NN Life & Pensions’ data strategy, and contributing to strategic reports and financial statements? Do you have a passion for working with modern languages and technologies such as SQL, PL/SQL, Python, and Power BI for reporting, and do you thrive in an Agile environment? Would you like to deepen your understanding of life insurance? Then this role might be a perfect fit for you. On our LPDAP (Life & Pensions Data Platform), you’ll use SAP technology (and soon Databricks) to maximize the value of our data. This helps us improve Life & Pensions products, optimize our business models, and serve our customers—both internal and external—as effectively as possible.

What you are going to do

In this role, you’ll be responsible for collecting, delivering, and managing high-quality data for strategic reporting, financial statements (IFRS17 and Solvency II), portals, and other consumers. Our approach includes performing data quality checks and using a Data Quality Engine to assess data quality, with monthly insights provided via a Power BI dashboard. SQL, PL/SQL, Python, and testing tools are essential for these tasks. With the upcoming migration from SAP BW/HANA to Databricks on the Azure platform, we’re looking for someone with a learning mindset.

What we offer you

  • A salary between €4,092 and €5,846 based on 36 hours, depending on your knowledge and experience
  • 13th month and holiday allowance
  • 27 vacation days for a 5-day workweek, plus one Diversity Day
  • A modern pension scheme managed by BeFrank
  • Hybrid working: a mix of office and home, with approximately 2 days per week in our Rotterdam office
  • Home office allowances for internet and a proper workspace
  • Opportunities for personal development and training
  • NS Business Card (2nd class) for unlimited travel, including personal use. Prefer to travel by car? You can claim your mileage
  • A dynamic international work environment where your ideas truly make a difference

Who you are

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, or equivalent working and thinking level
  • Intermediate-level knowledge, with at least 5 years of hands-on experience in SQL and Python, including expertise in Window Functions, relational databases, PL/SQL (procedures, functions, dynamic SQL, etc.), and familiarity with GIT and CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience with SAP HANA Calculation Views and Table Functions, Power BI, and DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) is a valuable asset
  • Experience with the Azure platform and Databricks is a plus for upcoming migration projects
  • You are a proactive and collaborative team player who communicates effectively with various stakeholders and can positively influence them
  • Knowledge and experience in the life insurance sector, especially with complex policy data models, is a clear advantage for the team
  • You are flexible, work Agile, and feel at home in a dynamic team
  • You speak English fluently and preferably Dutch as well

Who you will work with

At NN, we work in a hybrid way—partly from home and partly at the office. Teams meet digitally, physically, or in a hybrid format. Together with your team, you decide what works best. Our offices are designed to support all types of work. The official location for this role is Rotterdam.

Your home base will be the Data Mall team, part of IT Services. You’ll work with over 50 colleagues. What characterizes our collaboration? Open and honest communication. Your colleagues all share a passion for data and IT and bring diverse backgrounds in terms of knowledge and experience. We work fully Agile toward shared goals, with each team member having a lot of individual responsibility while also supporting each other when challenges arise. Our team culture is engaged, open, and results oriented.
