At Van Oord, we’re shaping the future of our global HR landscape — and we’re looking for a Workday Functional Specialist to help lead the way. In this role, you’ll help build and evolve a Workday ecosystem that empowers our people and drives international growth. You’ll play a key role in shaping system functionalities and co-creating an implementation roadmap that truly matters. This is your chance to make an impact where technology meets transformation.

THE POSITION

Van Oord is looking for a Workday Functional Specialist to help shape and support our evolving Workday landscape. As a cornerstone of our digital HR transformation, Workday enables us to redesign systems, processes and ways of working — all to support our international growth.

We’re seeking someone with a proactive, consultancy-driven mindset. While our current team focuses mainly on handling tickets, we’re ready to take the next step — anticipating needs, advising the business, and driving improvements before issues arise. You’ll bring fresh energy and help us shift from reactive support to strategic impact, looking for innovations for the organization, gathering insights from other Workday clients in the market, and collecting feedback from focus groups within the organization.

YOUR IMPACT

  • Act as a functional expert for Workday modules including Talent & Performance and Learning, as well as modules like Time Tracking, Absence, and Compensation, ensuring optimal configuration and system stability.
  • Collaborate closely with HR process managers and stakeholders to analyze business needs, translate them into functional requirements, and co-create solutions that enhance HR service delivery.
  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities for system enhancements, process optimization, and adoption of new Workday features or best practices in the HR tech landscape.
  • Support ongoing system maintenance, testing, and release management, ensuring smooth rollouts of new functionality and alignment with HR policies and compliance standards.
  • Lead and contribute to Workday-related projects, bringing structure, focus, and progress through strong project management.

YOUR WORKPLACE

The HR Technology team consists of approximately 5-10 colleagues, responsible for managing our digital HR tools and roadmap in terms of maintenance and improvements. Each team member has expertise in a wide variety of tools, processes, and Workday modules. You will report to the HR Technology Manager. The HR Technology team is part of the HR Operations team, which also includes our HR Services hubs. We closely collaborate with our HR in Business advisory team and Centers of Expertise.

ABOUT YOU

  • Bachelor Degree in HR, Business, IT/IS, MIS, or a related field strongly preferred; applicable experience also considered.
  • 5+ years of configuration and hands-on Workday experience with proficiency in multiple Workday products.
  • Capable of connecting the dots between processes and systems.
  • Must be able to maintain high levels of confidentiality and understand and maintain HR data security.
  • Excellent command of English, both spoken and written.

WE OFFER

We offer you a position in which you will have an important contribution to our mission 'building a better world for future generations'. In addition, we offer you:

  • A salary that matches your responsibilities and experience
  • Home office allowance (€2,40 per day)
  • 32 leave days per year
  • Variable bonus
  • Pension scheme
  • Collective health insurance (optional)
  • Flexible working from home policy, 2 days a week when working on a full-time basis
  • Extensive learning and (personal) development possibilities, including a wide range of online courses via Goodhabitz
  • You can join communities, like Young Van Oord, Van Oord Women and the Van Oord staff association
  • We organise several (sport) events, e.g. winter sport, weekend of sailing, cycling and a motorcycle tour
'Show what you can do and where your ambition lies, and you’ll get every opportunity to act on it. That’s something I’m proud of!'
