Internship Opportunity in the Electrical Department, Space Product

Our team and mission

The Electrical Department, part of the Directorate of Technology, Engineering, and Quality, is responsible for the domain of Electrical Products. The team focuses on increasing the availability of new Electrical Products, technologies, certification methodologies, and tools in line with the Agency's goals. This includes the control and early achievement of industrialisation, manufacturing, and maintenance processes, contributing to the reduction of technical risk in ESA projects.

One of the main tasks involves developing top-down technology methodologies to secure and safeguard space products and industrial capabilities in Europe, including managing the availability and obsolescence of units, components, and raw materials in line with new regulatory frameworks.

Topic of the internship: Space Product Industrialisation

We are seeking a motivated and dynamic student to focus on the industrialisation of electrical space products for serial production. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a cutting-edge space industry portfolio of products and processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect inputs from relevant TEC Departments, ESA Service Domains, and industry in the domain of recurrent space products and associated verification and certification records; identify issues, trends, and areas of risk.
  • Maintain accurate records of product manufacturing activities, including manufacturing maturity levels, inventory, supplier information, and process documentation.
  • Support the development of Product Certification methodologies and tools, including the achievement of manufacturing readiness.
  • Assist in ensuring that all industrialized products meet the required space standards for the different mission classes.

Education:

  • You must be a university student, preferably studying at master’s level.
  • You must be able to prove that you will be enrolled at your University for the entire duration of the internship.

Additional Requirements:

  • The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another ESA Member State language is an asset.
  • Knowledge and background in Industrial Engineering & Management is an asset.
