Our team and mission

The Technology Demonstration and Validation Division is responsible for the definition and implementation of the in-orbit technology demonstration and validation strategy of the Agency, including:

• Defining, implementing, and managing in-orbit technology demonstration and validation missions in coordination with TEC-R ESA and programmes
• Supporting ESA programmes and the European Commission in the validation of commercial in-orbit services and technologies
• Defining, implementing, and managing innovative SmallSats/CubeSats missions pushing the frontiers of associated technology developments

Topic of the internship: Small Satellites Unit

Within the Systems Department, the Proba-3 project team is seeking an intern to analyse the system performance and stability over time. Proba-3 is a cutting-edge technology demonstration mission for formation flying, with launch scheduled for December 2024.

You will be charged with collecting telemetry data from the spacecraft and processing it to analyse the formation flying performance and associated on-board sensors, and their stability over time. The internship may involve some coding, but not intensely or frequently. You will be integrated within the Proba-3 project team, itself within the in-orbit technology demonstration project Division in the Systems Department.

Education

You must be a university student, preferably studying at master’s level, and be able to prove that you will be enrolled at your University for the entire duration of the internship.

Additional requirements

• The working languages of the Agency are English and French; a good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another ESA Member State language is an asset.
• Knowledge and background in data processing tools and common computer languages (Spreadsheet editor, Python, MATLAB, etc.) is an asset.
