Join the Platform Engineering Team at GÉANT

At GÉANT, our infrastructure supports the most advanced research and education networks across Europe. Behind that infrastructure is a team of engineers who ensure our platforms are secure, scalable, and ready for what is next. We are now looking for a Platform Engineer to join that team in Amsterdam. This role sits at the heart of our platform engineering function, working closely with colleagues in Amsterdam and Cambridge.

You will be part of a team that designs, builds, and operates the core services that power everything from compute and storage to container orchestration and cloud platforms. You will bring hands-on experience with Kubernetes and OpenStack, a strong grasp of automation and Infrastructure as Code, and a mindset focused on continuous improvement. Whether it is deploying a new cluster, refining CI/CD pipelines, or improving observability, you will be trusted to make a real impact.

You will work across the full lifecycle of our platform environments, both physical and virtual, and collaborate with development, network, and security teams to ensure our services are resilient, efficient, and secure. You will also play a key role in shaping how we modernize and scale our infrastructure to meet future demands. This is a role for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, thrives in a collaborative environment, and takes pride in building systems that just work.

What you will be doing

  • Designing and maintaining infrastructure across corporate and hosting data centers.
  • Managing OpenStack or similar cloud platforms to unify physical infrastructure.
  • Deploying and operating Kubernetes clusters and supporting CI/CD workflows.
  • Applying automation and Infrastructure as Code to reduce manual operations.
  • Ensuring platform reliability, observability, and performance. Supporting containerized workloads and self-service capabilities.
  • Contributing to platform security, compliance, and governance.

What you will bring

  • Proven experience in infrastructure or platform engineering.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Kubernetes and OpenStack or similar.
  • Proficiency in Linux and Windows system administration, networking, and storage.
  • Experience with tools like Terraform, Ansible, or Puppet.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools, version control systems, and ITSM frameworks.
  • A collaborative mindset, strong analytical skills, and a commitment to documentation and continuous learning.
