For our R&D location in Warmenhuizen, we are looking for a Prebreeding Assistant (Allium & Brassica).

Within the Allium - Brassica pre-breeding Team, under the prebreeder leadership, the main goal of the role is to ensure the technical management of discovery projects and genetic resources with the help of operation in compliance with pre-breeding frameworks and close collaboration with Allium and Brassica research, breeding and local operational teams, which are based in different locations both in Netherlands and abroad.

Role & Responsibilities

The general mission of the position holder is to carry out the management and multiplication of the genetic material necessary for the development of the pre-breeding activity within the framework of research projects. You will be responsible for coordination of the various technical works related to the projects, planning, organizing and implementing activities in compliance with safety instructions. You will ensure the smooth execution of the projects with the support of operations and by interacting with other research teams (breeding, phytopathology, cell biology, digital phenotyping), and other departments (IT, packaging and shipping departments). You will also ensure the continuous improvement of the processes and methods in place and the implementation of new activities, and regularly report on the progress of projects to the direct manager.

Candidate Profile

  • Bachelor's degree, University Diploma in Technology (BUT), or Master’s in Agronomy and/or Plant Breeding
  • Knowledge of conducting experimental trials both in the greenhouse and open field; mastery of cultivation techniques in plant production
  • General computer skills: MS Office, SharePoint; ability to quickly adapt to specific company IT systems, databases, data processing, and analysis software
  • Basic knowledge of statistics
  • Proven analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Scientific rigor and critical thinking
  • Team spirit and good communication skills; open-mindedness
  • Interest in a dynamic work environment where daily activity changes according to season
  • Enthusiasm for crop development, scoring and interpreting results
  • Motivation to learn and constantly improve processes and tools
  • Well organized, methodical, and able to multitask
  • Able to endure sometimes harsh weather conditions, as well as seasonal peaks of activities (including travel domestically and internationally)
  • Flexible, convincing, and entrepreneurial attitude
  • Fluent in English & Dutch
  • Driver’s license
