At the Department of Data Science and Biostatistics (Real-World Evidence group) at the University Medical Center Utrecht, you will have the opportunity to contribute to large-scale, real-world health data projects as a Statistical Programmer / Biostatistician.

Dit ga je doen

In this role, you will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of epidemiologists, medical researchers, data engineers, and statisticians on studies assessing the safety and effectiveness of medicines and vaccines. The projects involve distributed analysis of sensitive health data using a common data model to support causal inference.

You will contribute to:

  • Implementing target trial emulation study designs and reviewing statistical analysis plans
  • Designing and developing analytic pipelines with data engineers, and supporting continuous improvement
  • Processing, visualizing, evaluating, and reporting statistical results
  • Contributing to teaching and research activities within the department

The Julius Center for Health Sciences and Primary Care is one of ten divisions within UMC Utrecht. The Julius Center plays a leading role in the advancement and dissemination of knowledge in Health Sciences and Primary Care through high-quality research and education. The Department of Data Science and Biostatistics focuses on Health Data Science, Clinical Trial Methodology, and Real-World Evidence.

The Real-World Evidence group is a dynamic, inclusive, and multicultural environment of 5 statisticians, 6 data engineers, 5 epidemiologists and 15 PhD students, with people from 14 different nationalities across all continents, interacting in English. We collaborate with European research networks such as VAC4EU, EU PE&PV, and the SIGMA consortium, as well as with the European Medicines Agency and global institutions, on projects that frequently support regulatory decisions regarding the safety and effectiveness of medicines. We aim to incorporate AI in all our processes for efficiency.

Dit neem je mee

We are looking for a candidate who has:

  • A research master’s degree (or equivalent) in applied statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology (with a methodological focus), or a related field
  • Strong proficiency in R, and familiarity with git and GitHub
  • A solid foundation in advanced statistical concepts and a genuine interest in clinical research
  • Familiarity with causal inference concepts, such as target trial emulation and confounder adjustment
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain statistical concepts to non-specialist audiences
  • Experience with real-world data and working in diverse, collaborative teams (preferred)
  • Fluency in written and spoken English

Dit bieden we jou

  • A salary between € 3.598 and € 5.669 gross per month (salary scale 10), based on full-time employment (36 hours).
  • Year-end bonus of 8.3% and holiday allowance of 8%.
  • Pension insurance with ABP. We take care of approximately 70% of the monthly contribution.
  • 100% public transport reimbursement. Are you coming on foot, by bike or by car? You will then receive a reimbursement of € 0.18 per km (by car up to a max. of 40 km one way).
