The Department of Quantum Nanoscience is looking for an experimentalist in quantum nanoscience to complement, strengthen and extend our competence in quantum matter, sensing, and transduction.

Job Description

The Department of Quantum Nanoscience at Delft University of Technology invites candidates for an academic career track assistant professor position to complement, extend and strengthen the department’s competence in quantum matter, quantum transduction, and quantum sensing.

Quantum physics has been blooming in recent years as a hotbed of scientific and technological innovation with a broad research landscape explored by a worldwide community. Our department’s research programme focuses on new strategies to:

  • Design, build and characterize quantum materials
  • Develop quantum sensors endowed with the ultimate sensitivity of quantum probes
  • Convert quantum information between different systems by means of transduction

From these research areas, the fundamental building blocks of future quantum technologies will emerge. We aspire to play a leading role in the ongoing endeavor to unlock the tremendous potential for innovation that lies in the quantum world.

We are looking for a promising experimental physicist with recognized expertise in the field of quantum nanoscience, from fundamental and/or technological perspectives. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research focuses on the study of novel paradigms in quantum matter, such as topology, symmetry and coherence, as well as highly responsive quantum sensors and transducers. We seek candidates whose research profile expands our research directions while also creating synergy with research groups in the department.

Candidates should have a successful scientific track record and be able to formulate an independent research program addressing current scientific and technological challenges. The candidate is expected to participate in the teaching of courses offered by the Applied Physics faculty both at the undergraduate and at the graduate level.

Consideration of applications for a tenured associate or full professor level position may be given to qualified individuals.

The Department of Quantum Nanoscience is part of the Kavli Institute of Nanoscience Delft - one of the first five Kavli Institutes.

Job Requirements

  • A PhD degree and post-doctoral expertise in a field relevant for the position
  • The ability to lead projects, as well as to supervise, train, and support junior researchers
  • The ability to define and pursue an own research direction, evidenced by the track record and recommendations
  • The ability to design and deliver clear and engaging education
  • The ability to collaborate in research, educational and organizational projects
