Help build our new SAF plant in Delfzijl and shape the future of sustainable aviation

Please be aware that from January 2028, this role will be based full-time at our production facility in Delfzijl.

About SkyNRG & the role

At SkyNRG we’re building something big: a new SAF (sustainable aviation fuel) production plant that will help transform the future of flying. As Process Engineer at our DSL-01 facility in Delfzijl, you’ll be at the heart of our mission to optimize production and ensure operational readiness.

You’ll work closely with our Engineering Manager and collaborate across departments; from maintenance and production to QHSES and laboratory teams, to support the commissioning, startup, and continuous improvement of our SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel) plant.

This is a rare opportunity to help shape a new, sustainable operating entity from the ground up. You’ll be involved in everything from developing SOPs and supporting our Operator Training Simulator to troubleshooting process issues and identifying bottlenecks. If you’re driven by technical excellence and thrive in a dynamic, collaborative environment, we’d love to speak with you.

What you’ll do

Before Startup:

  • Support the Plant Manager and Engineering Manager in implementing our Operational Readiness Plan
  • Align Commissioning & Startup (CSU) plans with partners (T.EN, Bilfinger, DSL-01 team)
  • Help develop SOPs and the Asset Management Plan
  • Provide technical input for the Operator Training Simulator and laboratory setup
  • Support development and implementation of the Asset Management System (AMS)

After Startup:

  • Support CSU activities (e.g. catalyst loading, process stability, product quality)
  • Troubleshoot process and equipment issues
  • Drive continuous improvement in safety, feedstock, chemicals, utilities, and energy efficiency
  • Investigate new feedstocks and support blending model development
  • Maintain up-to-date feedstock procurement and processing specifications
  • Identify and resolve process constraints that limit production efficiency
  • Engineer small modifications and supervise contractors for larger expansions

What success looks like (6–12 months)

  • Positive feedback from colleagues and stakeholders
  • Tangible progress in commissioning, maintenance, and lab setup
  • Demonstrable contributions to plant efficiency and reliability

What you will bring

Must-Haves:

  • BSc or MSc in Chemical Engineering (preferred) or Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a running industrial plant
  • Willingness to work in Delfzijl on a full-time basis from 2028 (moment of operational readiness), with a commute time to the plant within approximately 1 hour

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Experience in oleochemical, petrochemical, biodiesel, or HVO/SAF industries
  • Familiarity with safety and environmental compliance (HAZOP, risk assessments)
  • Background in plant commissioning and startup

Traits & Soft Skills:

  • Strong Dutch communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Proactive, progressive mindset that fosters a positive working environment
  • Analytical mindset and curiosity for technical problem-solving
  • Ability to collaborate across disciplines (maintenance, SCM, operations, management)

Why join us?

This is more than a job—it’s a chance to be part of something new and meaningful. You’ll help launch a state-of-the-art SAF plant and contribute to the future of sustainable aviation. From co-creating startup plans to optimizing plant performance, your work will have a direct impact on our mission and the planet.

What we offer

  • 30 paid holidays + 2 extra days when travelling sustainably for your holidays
  • Attractive bonus (~1 extra month’s salary)
  • Participation in the Employee Participation Plan (EPP) – giving you the opportunity to become a shareholder and share in the company’s success
  • €5,000 dedicated budget every 3 years for professional development
  • Flexible working arrangements: hybrid on-site/ remote
  • Generous employer pension contribution
  • Paid Volunteering Day
