Context of the Role
The Finance & Control department at Heerema Marine Contractors is committed to optimizing financial performance while ensuring strict compliance with financial regulations. The company has seen a rapid transformation in recent years where half of its revenues are now coming from renewables. The department’s core responsibilities include accounting and reporting, asset control, project control and financial planning & analysis. The Manager Finance & Control plays a pivotal role in achieving financial excellence and aligning financial strategies with the company’s strategic objectives, particularly as Heerema expands its focus on renewable energy projects. Additionally, the role emphasizes team and talent development to foster a high-performing finance organization.

Purpose of the Role

  • Professionalizing Finance and Control: Enhancing the finance and control functions to support permanent cost-saving measures and organizational growth.
  • Strategic Partnership: Acting as a sparring partner to the Director Finance and the management team, providing financial insights and recommendations to support business decision-making.
  • Cost Control and Efficiency: Overseeing and managing expenses to align with budgets and financial goals, identifying areas for cost reduction, and implementing cost-saving initiatives.
  • Reporting and Compliance: Ensuring high quality accounting and financial reporting including future compliance with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).
  • Digital Transformation: Driving the renewal of the Finance IT landscape (supporting the S4 HANA ERP implementation) to enhance efficiency and cost reduction.
  • Collaboration and Learning: Working closely with the internal audit team to embed recommendations and foster a learning organization.
  • Achieving Financial Targets: To meet financial performance targets in a changing environment (from value-based to cost-based), the cost structure and mind-set of the company will have to materially change. This requires a strategic and change management approach to cost management and financial planning.
  • Team Development: Focus on developing the team and fostering professional growth among its members.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage the team to deliver the required insights to the organization, with strong business acumen and a drive to elevate personal and team performance working across the organisation.
  • Oversee and manage the company’s expenses to ensure alignment with budgets and financial goals.
  • Analyse costs from tender to close out, identify areas for cost reduction or optimization, and implement cost-saving measures.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards.
  • Drive and support the renewal of the Finance IT landscape to enhance efficiency and cost reduction.
  • Work closely with the internal audit team to embed recommendations and foster a learning organization.
  • Provide strategic financial planning and analysis, budgeting, and financial reporting.
  • Actively collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to drive financial initiatives and optimize business processes.
  • Present financial information to the Director Finance. And together with the Director Finance to other stakeholders. Including recommendations and support of business decision-making.

Quantitative Information

  • Number of Direct and Indirect Reports: 4 direct reports, 25 indirect reports
  • Budget Responsibility: Departmental budget responsibility including audit fees
  • KPI’s (not limitative):
    • Cost Savings Achieved (USD or %): Track initiatives leading to cost reductions while maintaining efficiency.
    • Project Result/ EBITDA Margin (%): Assess operational efficiency and profitability before taxes and other costs.
    • Audit Findings (% Resolved): Percentage of audit issues resolved within the required timeframe.
    • Return on Investment (ROI) for Projects: Measure the profitability of key financial projects or investments.
    • Cash Flow Forecast Accuracy (%): Measure accuracy in predicting cash inflows and outflows.
    • Working Capital Ratio: Assess liquidity by comparing current assets to current liabilities.

Are you the Manager Finance & Control that we’re looking for?

General Knowledge/Experience

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or business administration (preferably RC). Or another Bachelor or Master’s degree supplemented with extensive financial experience obtained in financial business roles.
  • Extensive experience in financial managerial or leadership roles, demonstrating the ability to develop digitalization, teams, people and strategic financial planning.
  • Strong understanding of financial principles, including financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Familiarity with financial software and systems used for analysis, reporting, and planning.
  • Knowledge of and practical/proven experience with IFRS.

Specific Knowledge/Experience

  • Experience with S4/HANA and SAC is a big plus.
  • Expertise in presenting complex financial data to senior stakeholders, including boards, senior management, and investors.
  • Experience in developing and implementing financial strategies tailored to the organization’s objectives.
  • In-depth understanding of overseeing financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting processes.
  • Specialized knowledge of financial risk management and ensuring compliance with accounting standards.
  • Analytical expertise in evaluating financials.
  • Knowledge of financial regulations and compliance requirements relevant to the industry and geographic location. Experience in asset-intensive and project industries is a big plus.
  • Experience in ESG/CSRD reporting and sustainability frameworks.
