Be part of progress: Explore High Voltage Connector Alternatives for Wafer Stage Systems

Introduction

The wafer stage keeps the wafer in our machines in place, whilst it is moving at high speed. The High Voltage (HV) connectors are part of a high voltage infrastructure (> 3kV and < 10kV), which will be used in both atmospheric and vacuum environments. Based on these key specifications, you will execute a market scan to look for alternative HV connectors which could be applied in the wafer stage.

Your assignment

You will become familiar with the physics and field behavior of High Voltage circuits in a vacuum system. Your tasks will consist of the following:

  • Work through documentation to assess all relevant HV connectors used in the wafer stage, including their key specifications. Define a matrix with pros and cons for the current HV connectivity concept.
  • Based on the key specifications found, execute a market scan to look for alternative HV connectors, preferably COTS (Customer-Off-The-Shelf).
  • Test the already found/ordered candidates on Highly Accelerated Life Testing (HALT) and Paschen characteristics, best in a matrix overview.
  • Test new selected candidates on HALT and Paschen characteristics, best in a matrix overview.
  • Write a report with the results found, including proposals for alternative HV connectors and a justification.

This is a bachelor graduation internship (thesis) for a minimum of 5 months. The start date is from February 2026, but is flexible.

Your profile

To be a good fit for this assignment, you:

  • Have a background in Electronics Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering.
  • Have hardware skills and are interested in the High Voltage domain (>3kV and <10kV).
  • Are eager to learn and have a pro-active mindset.

Other requirements you need to meet

  • You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship.
  • You need to be located in the Netherlands to perform your internship. If you are currently living or studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter should include the willingness to relocate.
  • If you are a non-EU citizen studying in the Netherlands, your university must be willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
