We are currently looking for a Control Engineer to join the team in Delft.

As a Control Engineer, you will lead the design and optimization of control loops and dynamic systems for high-precision space optical communication products. You will work on both theoretical modeling and hands-on testing to achieve micro-radian pointing control, collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams and contributing to the full product lifecycle.

Main responsibilities

  • Design and optimize control loops for high-bandwidth (kHz-range) actuators and sensors to achieve precise micro-radian pointing performance.
  • Develop control algorithms for pointing, acquisition, and tracking of optical communication systems.
  • Collaborate with software engineers to iterate on and implement controller designs into product software.
  • Work closely with partners, subcontractors, and suppliers from a control systems and dynamics perspective.
  • Contribute to both theoretical and analytical control & dynamics design as well as hardware testing and validation of controllers.
  • Engage in multidisciplinary teamwork with optical, mechanical, electrical, systems, and software engineers across companies.
  • Provide input for customer proposals, tenders, and subsidy project applications.
  • Support the setup of factory processes, tooling, and production facilities from a control systems standpoint.
  • Take a proactive approach in identifying where you can add value and contribute to shaping the company’s future.

Requirements

  • A degree (HBO or WO) in Systems and Control, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a comparable control engineering role, ideally in the high-tech industry.
  • Strong expertise in high-speed control engineering and mechatronic system design.
  • Solid understanding of sensors, actuators, and the physical principles behind them.
  • Enthusiastic, flexible, proactive, and persistent in solving challenges.
  • Pragmatic and capable of working independently while showing initiative in building the company.
  • Strong command of English (written and spoken); Dutch is preferred but not required.
  • Ambitious, solution-oriented, and a collaborative team player.
  • Entrepreneurial and creative mindset, able to identify and translate technical challenges or new developments into effective solutions.

About the company

At S[&T] we contribute to a safer life on earth by translating space data into valuable and actionable insights. We oversee data from instruments to application, and apply our expertise within our software frameworks, information products and consultancy.

Our society relies on space and scientific instruments for climate change monitoring, navigation, defence and national security, and other crucial services we all use in our daily lives. These instruments produce an enormous quantity of complex data, and our goal is to unlock its value.

We have more than 20 years of experience working on instrument calibration, the creation of data quality monitoring tools, the development of real-time data processing frameworks, and the development of application-specific algorithms. With this, we help organisations, governments and industries to strengthen their information position and thereby improve their decision making. We focus on the following domains: Space & Science, Defence & Security, Environment & Sustainability, and High-Tech Consulting.
