About Elsevier

Elsevier is a global leader in information and analytics, empowering researchers and R&D professionals to advance science and improve outcomes. With the rise of AI-enabled solutions, Elsevier is innovating across its $400M Corporate Markets portfolio to bring applied, responsible Generative AI to the heart of the R&D workflow.

About the Role

As Usage Analyst for the Elsevier Corporate Markets, you will play a critical role in analysing customer behaviours, buying preferences, and patterns in the impact of our Generative AI enhanced products, and helping communicate this to a wider audience. Your mission is to develop informative, impactful and scalable engagement metrics that uncover patterns of adoption and capture real-world customer impact that demonstrates ROI. You’ll work closely with product, UX, marketing, customer success and sales to ensure our AI+ tools are used frequently, deeply, and successfully by corporate R&D clients.

This is a new role, designed to ground strategic decisions in clear evidence of user behaviour and customer outcomes. You will have the opportunity to uncover valuable insights and drive initiatives that enhance the positioning and offering of our products and services, leveraging the power of AI. You will be working cross-functionally with a variety of stakeholders in different functions including product, marketing, strategy, sales, customer success as well as leadership. This is an emerging group within Elsevier that offers strong growth potential for those with initiative and drive.

Key Responsibilities

1. Define and Manage Product Engagement Metrics

  • Design and maintain simple, actionable KPIs that measure user engagement, activation, retention, and adoption frequency of Generative AI tools. Your primary focus will be on creating, organizing, and managing the ScienceDirect and Scopus product analytics and user feedback suite. This suite includes industry-leading tools such as Adobe Analytics, Adobe Target, Snowflake, Tableau, and Pendo.
  • Collaborate with Product and Data teams to operationalize dashboards and track leading indicators of product success.
  • Develop usage cohort models to understand patterns across industries, company sizes, or customer types.

2. Monitor, report and help drive Generative AI Adoption

  • Create and deliver recurring reports on customer usage across the AI+ product suite, with a focus on early-stage adoption, repeat usage, and user-level activity.
  • Identify friction points or drop-off in the user journey and work with product teams to drive improvements.

3. Voice of Customer: Impact and ROI Evidence

  • Partner with Customer Success, UX Research, and Sales to collect and curate high-quality voice of customer (VoC) statements that validate product value.
  • Translate qualitative customer testimonials into structured impact narratives and quantitative ROI indicators.
  • Track and document "proof points" from alpha/beta clients and early adopters across key industry verticals.

4. Support Product-Market Fit and Commercial Readiness

  • Work with the Portfolio Delivery Lead to align usage data with positioning, pricing, and go-to-market planning.
  • Support hypothesis testing and A/B validation of features or messaging using real-world behavioural insights.
  • Identify promising customer advocates and work with marketing to convert them into case studies or testimonials.

5. Ensure Insight Accessibility Across Teams

  • Collaborate to build easy-to-consume visualizations and one-pagers for internal stakeholders across Product, Marketing, Sales, and Leadership.
  • Contribute to internal forums and quarterly business reviews to share trends, insights, and performance highlights.

Key Skills and Experience

Essential

  • 3+ years experience in an analytical role; product analytics, usage insights, customer intelligence, or similar roles.
  • Experience with web analytics solutions e.g.: Google Analytics/Adobe Analytics/Pendo or similar tools.
  • Experience with developing standard reporting dashboards using Tableau and SQL.
  • Familiarity with product instrumentation and user event tracking.
  • Experience working in SaaS, B2B, or R&D-related environments.
  • Strong communication skills; ability to translate data into meaningful stories and business impact.
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Preferred

  • Experience working with AI/ML-powered products or emerging technologies.
  • Familiarity with R&D workflows or scientific research markets.
  • Previous work supporting product-market fit validation or go-to-market launch cycles.

Personal Attributes

  • Curiosity-driven and outcome-oriented
  • Comfortable with ambiguity; willing to iterate and learn
  • Insightful; able to see beyond the data to identify what behaviour the data is representing, and how best to represent/communicate this
  • Collaborative, communicative, and empathetic to stakeholder needs
  • Committed to ethical data practices and responsible innovation
  • Fluent English language skills, both written and spoken.
