Support the CEO and Drive High Performance at bol

How do you make our customers happy?

You provide support to our CEO, so that she can focus even more on making bol a high-performing organisation in an extremely competitive marketplace. You make sure she has peace of mind by tackling a range of key tasks for her. You ensure she is prepped and briefed perfectly for key meetings and interactions. One day you create an update for the CEO and CFO of our shareholder Ahold Delhaize (KAD); the next day you prepare an offsite for the top 50 of bol (the Leadership Circle, LC) or put the finishing touches on a presentation for internal or external stakeholders that the CEO will give. You proactively find the answer to any question the CEO may have, from random data facts about bol to updates on (potential) strategic projects. In everything you do you will combine business knowledge with organisational sensitivity. In short, this function would be a challenge for any professional. Are you up for it?

What you’ll do as Business Manager

In this role, change is the only constant. Some elements of the role are more predictable, like leading the (Extended) Business Review process with KAD 5x a year (to share our strategic plans and reflect on our performance), or organising events for the Leadership Circle. However, the rest of your job will depend on what the CEO needs and what topics are top of mind. It is your job to navigate the complexity and sensitivity of the topics, interact with the right stakeholders and get the quality answers the CEO needs. And of course: always delivering on time! Apart from the CEO, your key stakeholders are the Director Strategy, ESG & Corporate Communications, the Board and the Leadership Circle within bol.

What you will do in this role:

  • You lead the process of the (Extended) Business Reviews with KAD, together with colleagues from Finance
  • You are also involved in other KAD matters: from preparing KAD board member visits to bol, to providing input for the quarterly results of Ahold Delhaize
  • You organize events for the Leadership Circle and run & analyse the quarterly surveys to measure progress towards a high-performing team
  • You draw up presentations and slide decks for the CEO, interpreting data to create clear narratives
  • You answer questions from the CEO on a variety of topics: whatever is on the CEO’s mind could end up at your plate, so if there ever was an opportunity to influence the course of an e-commerce superhero, this is it
  • There may be other work, like running the annual goal-setting process or confidential projects that could be part of this role – if it helps the CEO and bol, it could be your job

  • Initiative… on command You only become proactive when someone asks you to, and they better ask nicely
  • Hand-holding required You are not used to working autonomously and need a very detailed and clear briefing before you get started
  • What’s not to like? You don’t like working with data, you don’t enjoy making slides, and you’re not in the least interested in strategy
  • Skilled stakeholder-guru You have an academic master’s degree, more than 5 years’ work experience, the ability to manage stakeholders, and working with C-level executives doesn’t make you flinch
  • Spinning a lot of plates You effortlessly balance all topics that you’re dealing with, easily switching between them and always hitting your deadlines
  • No problemo You are service-oriented, tackling any ad hoc questions and vague assignments with your analytical mind

You’ll join the department of Strategy, ESG & Corporate Communications. You will report to the Head of Strategy & Business Development, but will work closely with the director of the department as well, and of course with the CEO.
