Are you ready to lead your own research group in medicinal chemistry and make a real impact on human health? As an Assistant Professor, you’ll supervise and mentor PhD candidates and teach in the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in Chemistry, Molecular Life Sciences and Science.
You will develop an independent research group to build a competitive research programme in medicinal chemistry, in which the design, synthesis and biological function of new molecules are integral elements. You will supervise and mentor PhD candidates and teach in the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in Chemistry, Molecular Life Sciences and Science. An important aspect is also the acquisition of external research funding, possibly in collaboration with external academic and/or industrial partners.
Examples of potential research lines include:

Additional employment conditions
Work and science require good employment practices. Radboud University's primary and secondary employment conditions reflect this. You can make arrangements for the best possible work-life balance with flexible working hours, various leave arrangements and working from home. You are also able to compose part of your employment conditions yourself. For example, exchange income for extra leave days and receive a reimbursement for your sports membership. In addition, you receive a 34% discount on the sports and cultural activities at Radboud University as an employee. And, of course, we offer a good pension plan. We also give you plenty of room and responsibility to develop your talents and realise your ambitions. Therefore, we provide various training and development schemes.
Where you will be working
Medicinal chemistry research fits in our broader focus on chemical biology, where 12 other research groups collaborate and share excellent facilities such as NMR, MS, advanced microscopy techniques, cell culture labs and medical imaging facilities. This makes it possible to use both in vitro and in vivo biochemical approaches to study the role of target molecules in their physiological environment. All researchers involved benefit from the many close connections between (organic) chemistry groups and research teams in the Radboud Institute for Molecular Life Sciences (RIMLS), the Radboud university medical center (Radboudumc) and the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour.
You will be based at the Institute for Molecules and Materials (IMM), which is one of the research institutes of the Faculty of Science. IMM is a research institute in chemistry and physics that fosters interdisciplinarity by crossing traditional boundaries. Our mission is to create, discover, and understand processes and phenomena in atomic and molecular environments. We focus on fundamental research and explore the opportunities for societally relevant applications, thereby educating the next generation of leaders in science and innovation.
IMM distinguishes itself from similar institutes by the intense collaborations between chemists and physicists and/or experimentalists and theoreticians, and by our excellent infrastructure, including state-of-the-art chemistry and biochemistry labs, the Magnetic Resonance Research Centre, the Nanolab, the Laserlab and international user facilities such as the High Field Magnet Laboratory and the Free Electron Laser Laboratory (HFML-FELIX).
IMM provides an open and dynamic research environment in which everybody is encouraged to bring their research to full fruition. Radboud University is an equal opportunity employer, committed to building a culturally diverse intellectual community, and as such encourages applications from women and minorities. The university offers customised facilities to better align work and private life. Parents are entitled to partly paid parental leave and Radboud University staff enjoy flexibility in the way they structure their work. The university highly values the career development of its staff, which is facilitated by a variety of programmes.
Faculty of Science
The Faculty of Science (FNWI), part of Radboud University, engages in groundbreaking research and excellent education. In doing so, we push the boundaries of scientific knowledge and pass that knowledge on to the next generation. We seek solutions to major societal challenges, such as cybercrime and climate change and work on major scientific challenges, such as those in the quantum world. At the same time, we prepare our students for careers both within and outside the scientific field.Currently, more than 1,300 colleagues contribute to research and education, some as researchers and lecturers, others as technical and administrative support officers. The faculty has a strong international character with staff from more than 70 countries. Together, we work in an informal, accessible and welcoming environment, with attention and space for personal and professional development for all.Radboud University
At Radboud University, we aim to make an impact through our work. We achieve this by conducting groundbreaking research, providing high-quality education, offering excellent support, and fostering collaborations within and outside the university. In doing so, we contribute indispensably to a healthy, free world with equal opportunities for all. To accomplish this, we need even more colleagues who, based on their expertise, are willing to search for answers. We advocate for an inclusive community and welcome employees with diverse backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives. Will you also contribute to making the world a little better? You have a part to play.
