Internship - Metal-Organic Frameworks Integration with Sensor Devices

Project Title: Metal-Organic Frameworks Integration with Sensor devices

Project Duration: 6 months (minimum for non-thesis) up to 9 months

Description of role

To tackle the problem of cross-sensitivity in gas sensors, you will design new Metal Organic Frameworks (MOFs). These are porous crystalline materials with an outstanding selectivity for gas adsorption. Majority of current methodologies focus on synthesizing these materials as powder, but these are difficult to integrate with a transducer device. Your challenge is to develop thin-film metal-organic frameworks that can seamlessly be integrated over such semiconductor devices.

Your role:

  • MOF selection for sensing application (a pre-selection is already made for initial start)
  • Procedure development for thin films (using custom in-house equipment)
  • Characterization of thin-film MOFs for structural and property integrity
  • MOF-transducer integration
  • Potentially, gas sensing studies

Deliverables:

  • Material: List of successfully integrated materials with transducers
  • Standard operating procedures for developing these materials as thin films
  • Documentation: A report on the performed work and associated results

You're the right fit if:

  • Master’s student in the field of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or material science
  • Skilled with literature study, experimental design, lab work and data analysis.
  • Experience in chemical R&D environment and affinity towards multidisciplinary research.
  • Familiarity with material characterization and data processing techniques.
  • Proficient in scientific writing and reporting.

How we work together
We believe that we are better together than apart. The Lab work will require full-time presence in our facilities at the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven (NL).
