The role

As a Team Lead Manufacturing Engineering (ME) at Damen Naval, you'll provide dynamic operational leadership to a group of ME professionals within our Project Department. Your core mission: empower your team with the resources and knowledge to drive excellence in ME activities.

Your core mission is to maximize efficiency and effectiveness by meticulously analyzing equipment layout, workflow, and assembly methods across all yard manufacturing disciplines: Structures, Piping, Outfitting, and Mechanical. You will ensure your team's expertise directly contributes to the superior performance of our naval vessel manufacturing.

Key accountabilities
In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and coaching small to medium-sized ME teams on naval vessel projects, including performance appraisals.
  • Supervising and optimizing the vessel manufacturing process to drive continuous improvement.
  • Managing team resources, ensuring skill development, and fostering high internal performance.
  • Overseeing daily operations and planning (short to medium-term) in collaboration with Project Management.
  • Coordinating with diverse internal stakeholders to ensure project execution and quality within schedule, standards, and budget.
  • Developing and implementing policies and procedures to achieve team business objectives.
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of departmental processes.

Skills & experience
We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field with at least 7-10 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with 5-7 years of relevant experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of production processes in the naval vessel industry.
  • Proficiency in ERP/PDM software and CAD tools (e.g., SAP, Cadmatic, Inventor).
  • Proven experience leading specialist teams, preferably within the (naval) shipbuilding industry, with a track record in industrial improvement processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in complex project environments.
  • Excellent command of English and Dutch (written & verbal).
  • Willingness for significant business travel/work abroad, potentially frequent, long-duration, or intercontinental.
  • Key competencies: Decisiveness, Planning & Organizing, Management Control, Oral Communication, and Initiative.
  • Excellent references, as a security screening is part of the hiring process.
  • Permanent EU citizenship and passport are both required. Candidates with EU (work) visa or with both an EU and non-EU nationality and/or passport are not eligible in accordance with the requirements imposed by the military nature of our projects.
