Work Student Composite Structural Engineer at Ampelmann

Composite Assignment – Finite Element Modelling in RFEM

Are you an engineering student looking for a summer job to apply your knowledge to contribute to our work in the Composite Community or are you looking for a possibility to gain engineering work experience, then this assignment might be for you! Interested? Read more below.

About Ampelmann

Ampelmann makes offshore access as easy as crossing the street. Driven by innovative technology, we are continuously working on impactful projects, while supporting the shift to cleaner energy. Our international and safety minded environment values your well-being, and our culture is built on open communication and mutual respect. With us, you’ll thrive in a fast-growing, global company with endless opportunities for personal and professional development. Working for Ampelmann truly makes a difference!

About the Composite Community

In the recent years, we have been working on composite structures and structural components for our gangways, where a step-by-step introduction of the composite technology is followed. One example of a composite structure that is now already operating offshore for a couple of years is the Composite Slideway.

As multidisciplinary team, the Composite Community is responsible for these developments.

Your role as Work Student Composite Structural Engineer

To be prepared for future innovations, we are looking for a motivated work student to define the Ampelmann Finite Element Analysis (FEA) modelling standard for composite products using the software RFEM 6. The main goal of the assignment is to investigate how composites can be best modelled in RFEM 6.

By performing the assignment you can create the possibility for Ampelmann engineers to perform in-house feasibility or concept studies for their new composite innovations. The defined way of working and developed tools will be directly used for the next project, which ensures that the theoretical study performed can be applied to real-life examples. Your work will be supervised by an experienced composite structural engineer.

Regular activities

  • Define Composite Finite Element Modelling method using
  • RFEM 6 with Add-on Multilayer Surfaces
  • Parameterization and automation
  • Desire to integrate in existing tools
  • Create and validate RFEM models for existing composite structure(s)
  • Write a manual about Composite RFEM 6 modelling
  • Host workshop for the structural/composite engineers

We ask

  • To be interested in Composite structural engineering (Fibre Reinforced Polymers)
  • To have experience with or be interested in Finite Element Modelling (RFEM 6)
  • Nice to have basic experience with Python programming
  • Engineering student following 3rd year BSc or MSc education (Aerospace, Civil, Offshore engineering, or similar)
  • English language fluent communication and writing
  • Availability for the duration of the assignment: 2 to 3 months for 3 to 4 days per week working in our Delft office

You get

  • A gross salary of EUR 17,10- per hour, including holiday allowance and built-up annual leave.
  • A great and informal workplace in Delft.
  • Fantastic lunch, amazing coffee, and fun break facilities (e.g., ping pong, darts).
  • Flexibility and the chance to experience working in an international environment.
