Research Manager New Manufacturing Technologies | Eindhoven

This is your time to bring groundbreaking technologies closer to the market. Will you make your mark on the manufacturing industry of the future? Apply to TNO now.

About this position

High-speed micro-LED assembly by unique laser printing technology. 3D printing of personalised medicine. These are but two manufacturing technologies with a direct impact on industry and society developed by the New Manufacturing Technologies research group. As a manager, you’ll manage these innovations and a new team. At the Holst Centre in Eindhoven – an international research centre on the High Tech Campus where TNO and imec work closely with the business world – you’ll connect people, ideas, and opportunities, guiding innovations from the lab to spin-offs and even start-ups!

What will be your role?

An idea that starts on the drawing board, grows into a prototype, and ends up as a product that changes the market: that’s the strength of both the Holst Centre and this research group. FononTech and Keiron are examples of start-ups that were created earlier thanks to colleagues. You’ll lead a new team of approximately 25 colleagues, with whom you’ll share one mission: to create new opportunities and solve current issues in the high-tech manufacturing industry.

Entrepreneurship, development, and collaboration will be the keywords of your job. You’ll be responsible for everything that goes on in your group, from strategy and execution to planning and human resources. A major challenge lies in building a new team that will always work closely with the other TNO/Holst Centre research groups and the High Tech Industry unit. You’ll foster an open and inquisitive culture, where engagement and trust are key. You’ll also work closely with fellow research managers, with whom you’ll collaborate on substantive direction, strategic choices, and relationships with businesses. In doing so, your work will strengthen the technological position of the region, the Netherlands as a whole, and Europe.

What we expect from you

You see, appreciate, and encourage the talents of colleagues and energetically commit to the growth of the team. You actively engage with fellow managers and promote ideas by working together and leveraging everyone’s contribution. In doing so, you focus on results and dare to make decisions. You’re good at understanding the needs and expectations of industrial clients and translating them to the team. You easily switch between different stakeholders, keep an overview, and have good organisational skills.

Other knowledge and skills you bring to TNO:

  • A master’s degree (or a similar academic working and thinking level) in a relevant field, such as mechanical engineering or physics.
  • Experience with financial and other business operations, risk management, and Quality, Safety, Health, and Environment (QSHE).
  • A good command of English. If you also speak Dutch, then that’s a welcome bonus.
  • A proven entrepreneurial spirit (such as experience with or in a start-up).
  • Preferably experience in manufacturing technologies and/or equipment development.

What you'll get in return

Challenging and varied work with a real impact. And plenty of opportunities as, at TNO, you are in charge of shaping your career. We offer a gross yearly salary between €111.797 and €148.113 (based on your knowledge and experience), 8% holiday pay, a 13th month bonus of 8.33% and a flex budget (5.58% + €180). In addition, you will be given every opportunity to develop yourself.

TNO offers optional employee benefits, enabling you to tailor your benefits package to match your personal situation. You may also expect:

  • An extremely professional, innovative working environment where colleagues are leading experts in their field.
  • The opportunity to attend courses, workshops and conferences, and to receive training and coaching based on your needs.
  • 33 days annual leave on a full-time basis.
  • An employer that values and encourages diverse talent, with initiatives like the Female Leadership Program, our Rainbow Community and round tables on inclusion topics.
  • We offer a comprehensive and flexible mobility plan that also includes full compensation for public transportation for commuting and business travel or a leased car.
  • Great social events with your team and other TNO colleagues. That’s how you will get to know a lot of people really quickly.
  • Flexible working hours, the possibility to work parttime (32 of 36 hours) and the possibility of working from home.
  • Extensive relocation package for international candidates.
  • A good pension scheme.
