Founded in Rotterdam and supported by Builders startup studio, we aim to eliminate costly mis-hires and accelerate time-to-fill by providing real-time market insights, intelligent job design, and automated candidate matching.

We're entering a pivotal phase of product-market fit, and our platform is gaining traction among forward-thinking companies. As we scale, we're seeking our First Engineering Hire to join us in building a product that redefines how companies hire.

Why this role exists

As our First Engineering Hire, you'll collaborate closely with our CTO to bring Avery's product vision to life. You'll be instrumental in developing and refining core features, ensuring our technical foundation is robust and scalable.

This hands-on role offers a unique opportunity to shape a product from the ground up, directly impacting our early users and setting the stage for future growth.

(Note: This is not a founder or management role—yet there's room to grow into seniority and leadership as we scale.)

What you’ll do

• 🛠️ Product development & engineering
  • Develop new features across our stack, from front-end interfaces to back-end services.
  • Contribute to architectural decisions and maintain a low technical debt.
  • Collaborate with the CTO on sprint planning, coding, testing, and code reviews.
  • Integrate AI capabilities, including large language models, into the platform.
• ⚙️ Technical support & internal tooling
  • Enhance development workflows and tooling for efficiency.
  • Set up and maintain infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Troubleshoot issues and proactively improve system performance and reliability.
  • Provide engineering insights on product, UX, and customer use cases.
  • Write clean, well-documented code with attention to detail and user experience.

Job requirements

What we’re looking for

• 5+ years in full-stack development roles, preferably in startups or fast-paced environments.
• Proficiency in React, TypeScript, Next.js, NestJS, and related technologies.
• Experience with cloud-native infrastructure (e.g., Vercel, Supabase, Clerk, Railway).
• Ability to navigate ambiguity, manage shifting priorities, and own project delivery.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to articulate ideas and trade-offs effectively.
• Detail-oriented with a focus on code quality, performance, and user experience.
• Curious and resourceful, leveraging AI tools to enhance productivity and impact.

This role is for Avery, a Builders portfolio company. Hiring is managed by the Avery team.
