SenseGlove enables real touch in the digital world: we make the digital feeling real.

About the internship

The Nova gloves currently feature passive force feedback, which activates a brake to stop a finger. We are now developing a product with active force feedback (capable of pulling a finger) for use in telerobotics and machine-learning training applications. Our goal is to deliver responsive and realistic haptic feedback for users while maintaining simplicity for developers to integrate, even without a background in control systems.

This internship or thesis opportunity involves designing, tuning, and testing controllers for a state-of-the-art haptic glove. The final system will enable remote control of a robotic hand, allowing the user to experience the forces sensed by the robotic hand in real time.

The primary objective of this internship is to design and implement various control algorithms for our haptic and kinesthetic feedback systems. By developing precise control mechanisms, we aim to improve the realism, responsiveness, and effectiveness of haptic feedback across diverse applications

Responsibilities

  • Gaining an in-depth understanding of the dynamics of our haptic systems, modeling their behavior, and developing various control strategies to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Coding, prototyping, and testing control algorithms on haptic feedback modules, followed by optimization and tuning to refine control parameters.
  • Documenting design methodologies, implementation processes, experimental results, and key insights.

Requirements

  • Background in control systems engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, or related fields.
  • Strong theoretical foundation in control systems, signal processing, and/or robotics.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C++/C, MATLAB, or Python.
  • Familiarity with hardware prototyping platforms (e.g., Arduino, Raspberry Pi) is advantageous but not required.
  • Experience with haptic control systems (e.g., cobots, telerobotics, admittance/impedance control) is a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, creativity, and a passion for technology and innovation.

What we offer

  • Bi-weekly team lunches
  • Weekly fresh fruit and snacks
  • Lots of adventure; and nice colleagues
  • Fun team building activities
  • €320 monthly compensation

SenseGlove is a Delft based startup that develops tools for Virtual Reality. At SenseGlove we see virtual and augmented reality as enabler an for real world applications. Our believe is that providing interactions with objects and persons equal to those in the real world is the only way to fully utilise the potential of VR and AR. That is why we are creating the SenseGlove; The SenseGlove provides the most natural interaction in virtual and augmented reality. With the SenseGlove virtual objects are brought to live, you can feel, touch and interact with them as if they are real.

The Sense Glove is an exoskeleton glove that enables touch in Virtual Reality. The Glove is originally developed as a medical device for hand rehabilitation. By measuring 16 degrees of freedom of the hand it accurately tracks the movement. Small servomotors will restrict the motion of your hand when a virtual object is touched. The exoskeleton can be kept as small as possible due to the Z linkages that fold inward, all natural movements of the hand can be performed when the glove is worn.
