What are you looking for?

Are you passionate about driving data enablement and empowering teams with self-service solutions? Do you enjoy working with stakeholders to shape a product vision and deliver impactful internal tools? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you!

Working at Albert Heijn is not just a job; it's meaningful work. You work in an informal atmosphere alongside a passionate team that strives to stay ahead and make a difference. With your unique talents, you have an impact on the lives of our customers. You learn from experts in their fields, and we assist you in shaping your career. You can work flexibly with us, either from home or at our headquarters in Zaandam. A job at Albert Heijn is not just a job for now but also for the future.

What does this mean for you?

The team at Retail Business Platform is looking for an experienced PowerBI Developer to help define the way of exposing meaningful data using edge technologies and practices. A role in a complex domain full of insights and challenges.

This is how you will reinvent food retail.

We are now expanding our capabilities and are looking for a Power BI expert to act as a key bridge between data engineering and business decision-makers. This role is for someone who not only masters the tool but understands the why behind every dashboard and the how behind every metric.

Your new team and office.

Together with your team of 10 data engineers, Engineering Manager and Product Owner you will work on inspiring projects to accelerate our transition into a hybrid Food & Tech company. We want to leverage data and technology to future-proof food shopping and give our customers the accessibility to healthy food more easily available for everyone. At Albert Heijn, you team up with inspiring peers in the data, digital and tech domains. A community of diverse individuals who share a common goal; to create digital solutions that make (online) shopping simpler and more inspiring. Are you ready to reinvent the way millions of people buy and enjoy their food? We invest heavily in data, digital and tech. And that includes investing in your career! Our teams work in a hybrid way: both from home as well as in the office. We are located right next to the train station of Zaandam.

We think it’s important to be part of a high-belonging team; a team where you can be yourself and feel safe, accepted and appreciated. For this job we are preferably looking for someone who brings diversity in our team, in the widest possible sense. Someone who is a great addition to our team by bringing other ideas to the table. Don’t check all the boxes? Don’t worry, we probably don’t either 😉. Don’t hesitate to apply if you think you are up for the challenge, we’re happy to have a look at your resume!

We are looking for a Power BI developer to establish the practice of managed dashboards and reports within our platform. They will enable business decision makers across Albert Heijn to perform impactful changes efficiently and securely.

You will work closely with the Product Owner, Product Manager, your development team, and other product leaders to shape and execute a product strategy. You’ll collaborate with teams building other parts of the platform to ensure your applications integrate seamlessly and contribute to a smooth, self-service experience for both data producers and data consumers.

What You’ll Do

  • Build, maintain, and optimize Power BI reports, dashboards, and data visualizations that drive strategic decisions across departments.
  • Work closely with data engineers, domain experts, and business stakeholders to translate raw data into trusted KPIs and insights.
  • Design and implement data models (tabular models, star schemas) on top of data marts to ensure clarity, performance, and accuracy.
  • Define and enforce data visualization standards and help promote a self-service BI culture across the organization.
  • Assist in performance tuning of reports and governance of the Power BI environment.

What we offer.

At Albert Heijn we aim to grow, and this is only possible if you grow along with us. As we work together to build our brand and your career, you can count on (based on 40 hours per week):

  • An annual salary up to 82k including holiday allowance and a profit sharing. Depending on your level of seniority and experience;
  • A minimum of 20 days paid vacation, optionally 12.5 days extra. Do you want to take that extra time off, or would you rather convert the extra days into discounts or sell them for cash? You’re the end boss!;
  • Flexible working hours;
  • Access to a challenging training curriculum – AH Tech Academy;
  • An excellent pension plan where we as an employer contribute 4,5 more than you as an employee;
  • A travel allowance or a NS-business card for traveling to and from Zaandam by train;
  • Attractive discounts on various insurance policies;
  • 10% staff discount on groceries in all Albert Heijn stores, to a maximum of €300 per year;
  • A free Mijn Albert Heijn Premium membership with many benefits;
  • A company laptop and telephone.

The recipe for maximum impact

  • Advanced Power BI expertise, including DAX, Power Query (M), and report performance optimization.
  • Experience working with Azure Data Platform (Data Lake, Synapse, Data Factory) and Databricks in a modern data ecosystem.
  • Solid grasp of data modeling principles, especially for reporting: star schemas, normalization, row-level security.
  • Proficiency in SQL for data validation, exploration, and working directly with underlying data sources.
  • Hands-on experience with Power BI Service - workspaces, gateways, deployment pipelines, and sharing strategies.
  • Knowledge of Power Automate, Paginated Reports, or Power Apps.
  • Exposure to data governance, data cataloging, or semantic layer design.
  • Business empathy - ability to understand what stakeholders need, not just what they ask for.
  • Storytelling with data - you can bring numbers to life and guide users through a narrative that leads to action.
  • Initiative and curiosity - you don’t wait to be told what to do; you explore data and suggest what’s possible.
  • Collaboration and communication - experience working in cross-functional teams and explaining technical concepts in plain language.
  • A passion for clean design, usability, and data trustworthiness.
